John Reddan
John Patrick “Jack” Reddan died Saturday, Nov. 7, 2009, working on his yard.
He was first-generation Irish, born on Oct. 4, 1938 to parents Joseph Patrick and Bridget Corcoran Reddan of New York City. In high school, he excelled in sports, especially basketball and baseball. Before meeting his first wife, Miss Carroll Cunningham of Chattanooga, Jack had served with honor in the Marines and worked as a ski instructor in Lake Placid, N.Y.
He and Carroll met in 1964, married in 1965, had a son, Augie, in 1966, and moved to Chattanooga in 1967, where Jack soon went to work for First Federal Savings and Loan. In 1973, his daughter Connie was born, and in 1977, he graduated Cum Laude with a degree in business from the night-school program at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga.
Jack supported a number of civic and community organizations with his volunteer efforts, and especially loved his time as a Dixie Youth baseball coach for Buck Stamps and the Lookout Mountain Commons. Even thirty years after his coaching service, men in the Chattanooga community would still address him as Coach Reddan. He loved that!
After the untimely death of his first wife, Carroll, in 1992, Jack had the great good fortune to fall in love a second time. He met Lois Anne Frank in 1994 and they wed in 1995, setting up a lovely home in North Chattanooga.
Jack became a grandfather in 1999 and in his last years was elated to be called “Papa Jack” by five adoring grandchildren, Kutter, Cade, Maddy, Abby Grace and Bridie.
While Jack’s passing is untimely, through some prescient gift of providence, the Reddan family managed to host its largest reunion ever in the summer of 2008. Just two months ago, Jack traveled for a second time to his Irish homeland to bury the ashes of his brother, Jerry, beside their mom on the grounds of their ancestral home in County Longford. Finally, his beloved Yankees won the World Series just three days before his departure.
Jack is survived by his second wife, Lois Anne; his two children, Augie and Connie, her three children, Chris, Kim and Kerry, all of the aforementioned grandchildren, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom cherished Jack Reddan and now ache with his passing.
A funeral service will be held today, Nov. 11, at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of the Mount Catholic Church, 1227 Scenic Highway, Lookout Mountain, Ga., followed by a brief reception.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to support the cause of a good family friend, ALS Calder’s Cause, an organization leading the fight against ALS, c/o Ms. Betsy Willingham, 2539 Crestwood Drive, Chattanooga, TN 37415.

Heather was born at Womack Hospital at Fort Bragg on Nov. 5, 1988. As a daughter of a military family she lived in Germany and North Carolina. She was a 2007 graduate of South View High School. During her school years Heather was active in numerous sports. She also participated in Brownies and Girl Scouts. Heather especially loved being outdoors and loved the beach.
She had an outgoing and fun personality and loved spending time with her many friends. She loved being the “big sister” and believed her primary responsibility was to terrorize her brothers as much as possible. However, her love and care towards her brothers was immense and unconditional.
She will be deeply missed and never forgotten by her family, friends and all who knew her.
