Baylor's Will Stansell became the third Chattanooga-area baseball player to commit to Tennessee Tech for next year.
The Red Raiders catcher joins Soddy-Daisy first baseman Zach Stephenson and Ooltewah pitcher/first baseman Garrett Baugh.
"My brother went there so I was familiar with the school and I liked it," said Stansell, who has played with Baugh and Stephenson for the Chattanooga Cyclones.
Stansell had pitched and played first base for the Red Raiders and made the switch to catcher at Baylor last season. He had caught for the Cyclones for two seasons.
"He visited Tech a few days ago. They like him as a catcher," Baylor coach Gene Etter said. "He has a good arm, he blocks pitches well and he is a good hitter with power. He also is a good first baseman.
Stansell hit .330 last season with nine home runs, 10 doubles and 30 RBIs. He had a .700 slugging percentage. As a sophomore, he spent the last third of the season as the Red Raiders' designated hitter and carried a .349 average. He has a 5-4 record as a pitcher.
Tennessee Tech was the 2009 Ohio Valley Conference champion, and the nucleus of that team returns, including former Soddy-Daisy pitcher Jared Dobbs.
