Chattanooga: Former medical examiner arrested by TBI

by Jacqueline Koch

Bradley County’s former medical examiner and pathologist was arrested today by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation.

Dr. Ronald Toolsie, 50, of Igou Crossing Drive in Chattanooga, was indicted by a Hamilton County grand jury on one count of unlawful distribution of a controlled substance, one count of failure to keep required records of controlled substances and one count of obtaining a controlled substance by fraud on Oct. 28, according to a TBI news release.

He tried to obtain alprazolam, diazepam, hydrocodone and phentermine, according to the TBI.

Dr. Toolsie was an active medical examiner and did not have a medical practice, according to the TBI. The bureau opened its investigation into his prescription activities in November 2006.

Dr. Toolsie surrendered his DEA registration in 2006, and the Division of Health Related Boards suspended his license earlier this year.

He was booked into the Hamilton County Jail and posted $5,000 bond, according to the release.
