In one of my sessions at Jenny Craig, counselor Suzie pointed out a list of words that are restaurant-menu code for hidden, high-fat ingredients. Now that I’m starting to dine out again, she thought it would be helpful to have this to know the lingo while I’m in this weight-loss program for the Shape We’re In.
Ironically, the very words I’m supposed to avoid are the ones that usually tempt me to try a dish on the menu.
Here’s the rundown:
* Alfredo
* Breaded
* Creamed
* Lover’s
* Pesto
* Smothered
* Country-style
* Ultimate/Supreme
* Flaky
* Bacon
* Cheesy
* Crispy/Crunchy
* Meaty
* Rich
* The Works
* Golden Brown
* Loaded.... yum, visions of Choo-Choo Barbecue’s Killer Potato just danced in my head
* Comfort
* Bechamel
* Club
* Golden
* Kung Pao
* Sauteed
* Old-Fashioned
* Jumbo
So far I’ve lost 15 pounds, but today is the weigh-in, and I’m expecting to have gained. I know I’ll regret that visit to Red Lobster’s endless shrimp night when I step on the scales.
