Alabama: Teen charged with having gun, marijuana

STEELE, Ala. — Police say a teen has been placed with his grandfather after authorities found guns, homemade bombs, marijuana and knives in his bedroom.

Steele police officer Joy Ray says the teen was charged with possession of a sawed-off, short-barreled rifle and a marijuana plant. He was not identified.

Ray says the situation became known after a relative approached police worried over a relative who falls asleep in bed with a lit cigarette frequently. Police went to the home and found the disturbing stash in the teen's bedroom, along with magazines with articles about terrorists and the D.C. sniper attacks.

Steele Police Chief Jim Clay said the guns were all legally purchased. He said the teen inherited some of the guns.
