Baskeball Mocs win season opener with ease

The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga won its season opener with ease 107-62 over Virginia Intermont on Friday evening in McKenzie Arena.

The Mocs (1-0) dispatched the NAIA Division II school after leading the game 13-0 in the opening minutes then by 33 points with five minutes to go in the first half. UTC’s lead swelled to 50 points less than six minutes into the second half.

Sophomore Ricky Taylor led UTC with 17 points and six Mocs scored at least 11 points. Junior Jeremy Saffore set new career highs with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Benjamin Mulkey led the Cobras with 17 points.

UTC will next play on Tuesday against East Tennessee State.
