2 students face weapons counts

by Jacqueline Koch

Two East Ridge Middle School students were arrested Friday for bringing weapons to school, officials said.

Investigators detained the two students and found a knife and a set of brass knuckles on them, said East Ridge police spokesman Erik Hopkins.

The juveniles' names are being withheld, he said.

School resource officers received information about a possible planned fight among a small number of students and notified the East Ridge police and Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, Officer Hopkins said.

At this point in the investigation, officers think the incident is gang related, he said.

After their arrest, the suspects were taken to the Hamilton County Juvenile Detention Center, he said.

Troopers planning license checks

The Tennessee Highway Patrol will conduct driver's license checkpoints in Hamilton County during the week of Nov. 22-28, according to a news release.

Troopers will concentrate their efforts on vehicles being operated by drivers who violate the driver's license laws of Tennessee, the release said.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has found that roadside checkpoints are an effective means of enforcing driver's license laws while ensuring the protection of all motorists, according to the release.

All scheduled checkpoints are contingent upon personnel and weather.

JaMichael Richardson was shot in the back Sunday as he tried to escape the vehicle he'd been riding in with two men, Sgt. Weary said. Mr. Richardson went to a nearby residence where emergency medical personnel and police were called.

Mr. Custer was booked on charges of criminal conspiracy, especially aggravated robbery, aggravated assault and possession of marijuana for resale, Sgt. Weary said. Mr. Harris was charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated assault, she said.
