S Demond Washington 5-9, 185, Jr.

CB Neiko Thorpe 6-2, 176, So.

P Clinton Durst 6-1, 191, Sr.

* The matchup: Auburn’s defense has allowed 20 or more points in nine consecutive games, and the Tigers are dangerously thin at safety after Zac Etheridge’s season-ending neck injury two weeks ago. If Cox can stretch the field with Green and his tight ends, that will continue to open things for what has been an improving ground game.

P Drew Butler 6-2, 203, So.

* The matchup: Auburn is on pace to have its most prolific offense as far as yardage in Gus Malzahn’s first season as Tigers offensive coordinator, presenting yet another challenge for Georgia’s inconsistent defense. “It’s not some kind of gimmick,” Bulldogs coach Mark Richt said. “It’s an outstanding system that he has been able to run with players that he inherited. It worked in high school, it worked at Tulsa, and now it’s working at Auburn.”

THE ONE TO WATCH

* Georgia sophomore receiver A.J. Green: Green had the game-winning reception in last season’s 17-13 victory at Auburn, and he will be needed again tonight. The super sophomore has practiced full speed this week after missing last Saturday’s game with a bruised lung he suffered against Florida, and he is excited to return after missing his first career game at any level. Auburn has two relatively new starters at safety with 5-foot-11 freshman Daren Bates and 5-9 junior-college transfer Demond Washington, so look for a number of deep balls to the 6-4 Green.

IN THE END

* Breaking it down: The last time these two kicked off at night in Sanford Stadium, Auburn won a 31-30 thriller after the teams combined for 952 yards of total offense. Is there any reason to think tonight will be any different? Each defense allows more than 26 points a game, and both offenses have shown the ability to roll and are coming off get-well games in which the quarterbacks started out very accurately.

* Prediction: Georgia 31, Auburn 29
