The case of an 18-year-old charged with criminal homicide was bound over to criminal court this morning and bond was set at $50,000.
Edward Jackson III is accused in the death of Antonio Green, 28, who suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the chest on Nov. 5 at a park at 1000 Queens Drive.
After listening to testimony from witnesses today in a probable cause hearing, Judge David Bales bound the case over to criminal court.
Mr. Jackson’s attorney, Matt Brown, argued that the case should be dismissed because Mr. Jackson was acting in self-defense. Witnesses testified that Mr. Green started a fight with Mr. Jackson, punching him in the face, pulling him out of a vehicle and kicking him.
“There was no other cause of action that would have been reasonable for him to take,” Mr. Brown said.
The judge ruled that the case needed to be heard by a jury, which will decide whether the shooting was justified and determine the extent of the homicide charge, which could include second-degree murder or voluntary manslaughter.
Several of Mr. Green’s family members sat in the front of the courtroom today, wearing white sweatshirts with Mr. Green’s picture and the words “My Guardian Angel” on the back.
They declined comment after the hearing.

"My guardian angel"???? Angels don't punch and attempt to rob drug dealers! He got his just reward! And WHY HASNT THE OTHER THUG BEEN CHARGED WITH SELLING DRUGS in this case? as well as murder? Was he not in possession of a gun in the commission of a felony (selling drugs)? and less than a mile from the POLICE SERVICES CENTER!
Every law abiding citizen needs to arm themselves and defend themselves and their property and a lot of this crap would stop!
The next place something like this is gonna happen is at the Nine Brothers store on the corner of Central and 38th....and there is a police precinct within a mile of this place....!
