Fort Hood victim brought back to Tennessee for funeral

MOUNTAIN CITY, Tenn. — The body of a Tennessee soldier who was killed in the shooting spree at Fort Hood was flown to his hometown and escorted through some of his favorite places in East Tennessee.

The body of Spc. Fred Greene arrived at the Tri-Cities Regional Airport on Sunday and was taken on an indirect route back to his hometown of Mountain City.

Army spokeswoman Cathy Gramling told The Johnson City Press that the family wanted to take a less direct route through the areas where the 29-year-old soldier grew up and spent a lot of his time.

The family has scheduled a public visitation for Greene on Tuesday to be followed by a military funeral at Bakers Gap Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday.
