TO SHARE IDEAS
Randy Bohanon, the high bidder on the old Rossville Middle School property, wants people to call 423-838-1949 with ideas on community-oriented uses for the building.
Rossville business owner Randy Bohanon hopes to turn the old Rossville Middle School into a haven for community events and activities.
At $77,000, Mr. Bohanon was the high bidder Thursday for the school building and property on Bull Dog Drive, officials said.
The auditorium would be a boon as a rental venue for plays, concerts and dance and music recitals, said Mr. Bohanon, who attended the school in the early 1970s. He said classrooms could be rented out for parties, training or meetings.
“But I’m open to suggestions and ideas,” he said.
“I’ve had a bunch of phone calls from people wanting to know what I’m going to do. I’m trying to get a group of people together to get some ideas,” he said.
Walker County Schools Superintendent Melissa Mathis said she was glad for the successful auction.
The building was in “as good a condition as that building could be” for Thursday’s auction, she said.
Bruce Potts, co-owner of Rock Spring, Ga.-based Potts Brothers Land & Auction Co., said 15 bidders registered.
Mr. Potts described bidding as “brisk” and said the high bid probably exceeded expectations.
Mr. Bohanon said he’s ready to study ideas and start working as soon as he can close on the property.
