Battles for Chattanooga marked this weekend

Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park staff invites the public to attend special programs commemorating the 146th anniversary of the Battles for Chattanooga today and Sunday.

* Battlefield staff and volunteers will offer educational programs, walks, talks, guided tours, and living history demonstrations.

* Living history demonstrations will occur at Point Park on the top of Lookout Mountain and include Union infantry and Confederate artillery. Both the infantry and artillery camps will be open to visitors.

Confederate Artillery Demonstrations: 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. today; 10 and 11:30 a.m., 1 and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

Union Infantry Demonstrations: 10:15 and 11:45 a.m., 1:15, 2:45 and 4:15 p.m. today; 10:45 a.m., 12:15, 1:45 and 3:15 p.m. Sunday.

* Author Mark Hughes will be at the Point Park Visitors Center today to discuss and sign his book, "The New Civil War Handbook."
