* The matchup: The Mocs can’t run the ball against Southern Conference competition, so there’s no reason to believe they can do it against an Alabama defense that is among the best in the nation. That means Coleman will be throwing the ball often against a squad ranked 11th in the country in pass defense. The offensive line is going to have its hands full, to say the least, dealing with the likes of Cody and McClain.

P Mike Hammons 5-10, 175, So.

* The matchup: Heisman Trophy candidate Ingram averages 6.7 yards every time he runs the ball. With his stocky build, he’s very tough to bring down, so the Mocs are going to have to gang-tackle him as often as possible. The Crimson Tide has a run-first offense, but they also have one of the best receivers in the country in Julio Jones, who poses all kinds of matchup problems for the UTC secondary.

THE ONE TO WATCH

* Alabama noseguard Terrence Cody

The 6-foot-5, 354-pounder, nicknamed “Mount Cody,” was named this week a finalist for the Bronco Nagurski Trophy, which goes to the nation’s top defensive player. He’s also a finalist for the Lombardi Award, which goes to the nation’s top lineman or linebacker. Cody is a dominating noseguard with surprising quickness and athleticism. He blocked two field-goal tries, the second as time expired, in the Tide’s 12-10 win over Tennessee.

IN THE END

* Breaking it down: This might be the toughest opponent a UTC team has ever faced, better even than Oklahoma last season. The only thing that might keep this game from being am excessive blowout is the fact that Alabama plays Auburn in the Iron Bowl next week and then plays Florida in the Southeastern Conference championship game. The Tide don’t want to risk getting any of their key players hurt, so the reserves likely will get a lot of playing time.

* Prediction: Alabama 52, UTC 10
