Rhea man charged in knife slaying

An argument between friends has left one man dead and another in the Rhea County Jail.

Marvin Boles is being held on first-degree murder charges for the stabbing death of his friend Stanley Simpson, said Dayton Police Chief Chris Sneed.

According to the chief, police were called shortly after midnight Wednesday to Mr. Boles' home on Willow Drive in Dayton. When officers arrived, Mr. Boles walked toward the car holding a bloody hunting knife. Police ordered him to drop the knife and arrested him.

Officers found Mr. Simpson lying on the floor of a utility room in the house, Chief Sneed said. The officers performed CPR and Mr. Simpson was transported to Rhea County Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The chief said that according to two witnesses in the Boles home, the stabbing started with an argument between the two men, who'd been friends since grade school. Accounts of the argument differ and police are wrapping up evidence, examinations and interviews, the chief said.
