CLEVELAND, Tenn. — Construction bids for a Cleveland High School science wing are all very close to the preliminary estimate, hovering around $8 million.
The bids were opened late last week. Of the 12 bidders, one dropped out and one was disqualified. That leaves the Cleveland Board of Education and its architects with 10 bids to consider.
“Any decision is contingent on a review by the architects who will begin the process of checking the bids,” Director of Schools Rick Denning said Friday.
With a base bid of just more than $7.6 million, Cookeville-based Mid-State Construction Co. is the apparent low bidder.
Assistant City Manager Melinda Carroll said Chase Construction Co. was disqualified because the bid envelope did not include a list of subcontractors. Chase’s bid package was not opened, she said.
Beyond the base bids, there are options to be considered, Ms. Carroll said. Ten listed alternatives ranging from parking lot work to heating and air systems to acoustical materials.
Dr. Denning said the board may delete some of the alternatives.
The city school board’s next scheduled meeting is Dec. 7.
