Dalton teen killed in Sunday morning accident

A 16-year-old Dalton, Ga., boy was killed in a single-car accident early Sunday morning.

The teen was driving a Nissan Frontier pickup truck on Georgia Highway 201 near Gordon Springs Road about 12 miles east of Dalton, said Operator Wesley Burchett with the Georgia State Patrol’s Troop A Post 5 in Dalton.

At about 1:30 a.m. the boy lost control when trying to navigate a turn. The truck hit the culvert of a driveway and rolled several times before the boy was ejected, Operator Burchett said.

Because he is a juvenile, the teen’s name has not been released, Operator Burchett said.

It’s not known whether drugs, alcohol, or speed played a role in the accident, Operator Burchett said, though it’s likely the wet weather played an influence.
