Former Baylor School standout Luke List from Ringgold advanced to the final stage of PGA Tour Qualifying school Saturday and assured himself some degree of status on the Nationwide Tour for 2010.
But the news is not as fortunate for other area professional golfers, including Chattanooga's Adam Mitchell, who missed advancing out of the second stage by a single stroke.
List shot a final-round 4-over-par 75 but finished in a tie for seventh at 8-under 276 in a tournament where the top 21 and ties advanced to the final stage. Martin Flores of Dallas won that qualifying tournament with a 15 under at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas. Former Chattanooga Classic champion Kyle Reifers also advanced from there.
Mitchell entered the last round of his qualifier at Callaway Gardens-Mountain View Course in a tie for 18th. He finished tied for 24th at 7 under, and an 8-under finish would have advanced him to the final stage.
"There's not much to say, really," said Mitchell, a McCallie and Georgia alum, while watching the Bulldogs' football game. "I'm frustrated right now but it will turn into motivation later."
Mitchell made five birdies Saturday, but a double-bogey on the par-3 12th hurt, as did a bogey on the par-3 16th in Pine Mountain, Ga.
"I played solid on the front and I didn't have it on the back," Mitchell said. "Those two par-3s got me."
John Kimbell of LaFayette missed advancing from Callaway Gardens by two strokes, and Dalton's Michael Clark II tied for 61st.
Scott Weatherly of Fort Payne, Ala., tied for 32nd in his qualifying tournament at Deerwood Golf Club in Kingwood, Texas.
Former Tennessee Tech standout Scott Stallings advanced to the final stage of Q-school by finishing fifth at Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Fla.
The final stage -- a six-round tournament in which the top 25 and ties earn PGA Tour cards -- will be played Dec. 2-7 at Bear Lakes Country Club in West Palm Beach, Fla.
