Tennessee Wesleyan signs Trojans' Stewart

Senior Lexi Stewart from the Class AAA state champion Soddy-Daisy High School girls' golf team has signed scholarship papers to continue her career at Tennessee Wesleyan College.

"We're really excited for her," Soddy-Daisy coach Kevin Templeton said. "She's got a good scholarship to Wesleyan, and they're getting serious about golf. I think she's a good addition to their program."

The Lady Trojans were undefeated in five tournaments, and Stewart finished in the top five individually in two of them, Templeton said.

"Her stroke average was right at 3 over (par) for nine holes," he noted.

"I think she has tremendous potential," Wesleyan coach Stan Harrison said. "She's long off the tee and she's a good mid-iron player. We're going to work on her short game, but I think she can shoot consistently in the 70s. I see her playing two, three or four for us next year."
