Offices closing for Thanksgiving

Chattanooga city and county government offices will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Lee Norris, Chattanooga's deputy administrator of public works, said he and staff members will appreciate getting a break on Thanksgiving.

"Working on water quality, annexation, all of that's been cutting into lunch," he said.

The public works staff also has been working hard on leaf collection to make sure houses look nice for the holiday season, he said.

In Georgia, city offices in LaFayette, Chickamauga, Rossville and Lookout Mountain also will be closed Thursday and Friday for Thanksgiving.

Hamilton County and Whitfield County schools will be closed Wednesday through Friday.

Walker County schools will host parent conferences on Tuesday afternoon and have early student dismissal. Elementary schools will dismiss at 11 a.m. Early dismissal times for other schools vary.

Chickamauga City Schools closed Monday and will be closed all week. Monday is a teacher furlough day for the school district.

Banks will be closed Thanksgiving Day, but most will observe regular business hours Wednesday and Friday.

In observance of Thanksgiving Day, there will be no CARTA bus service Thursday. CARTA's Care-A-Van service will operate on a holiday schedule.

CARTA services will resume the regular weekday schedules on Friday with the exception of the Mocs Express, which will not operate because UTC is closed Friday.

The Lookout Mountain Incline Railway will close Thanksgiving Day and will reopen at 10 a.m. Friday.

Chattanooga garbage and curbside recycling will not take place Thanksgiving Day. All garbage and/or recycling collection falling on Thanksgiving will be collected Saturday.

Recycling Convenience Centers in Chattanooga will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and Friday. The Wood Recycling Center will close on Thanksgiving and reopen Friday.
