A picnic in Chattanooga and a parade through Manchester are among the highlights of the fifth annual Adoption Tour. Eighty-five riders are taking part in the 433-mile bike ride through Tennessee to promote awareness of adoption.
The ride kicked off Sunday in Johnson City. Tuesday, riders will make a pit stop in Cleveland from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. before traveling on to Chattanooga for a picnic at Coolidge Park starting at 5 p.m. Refreshments including hot dogs, chips and MoonPies will be available to riders and supporters at the end of this 109-mile day. Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield will be on hand to welcome the riders.
Riders will continue to Jasper on Wednesday and Manchester on Thursday. The ride ends the following day in Nashville.
According to the Tennessee Department of Children Services, 436 children are in state custody waiting to be adopted. More than half of those are teenagers.
