Hamilton County: Ramsey open to, but cautious on consolidation

by Matt Wilson

Hamilton County Mayor Claude Ramsey said today that he’s willing to work with Chattanooga officials and those from other cities to consolidate services, but he warned that it will take time and scrutiny.

At a news conference at the Hamilton County Courthouse, Mr. Ramsey said he was glad Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield has said he will hold off on further annexation to discuss a unified government.

However, Mr. Ramsey was hesitant to say officials could combine all government services, as Mr. Littlefield has suggested.

In regard to a metro government, Mr. Ramsey said, “I am not talking about that at all.”

Consolidation makes so much sense for the taxpaers. Sorry Claude, you do not have any say in this. The citizens will gather signatures for a petition to require a referendum.
