Disaster Recovery Centers in Catoosa and Chattooga counties are closing on Saturday, but one in Walker County will remain open, officials said.
“Traffic has slowed at the centers we are closing,” Charley English, director and state coordinating officer for the Georgia Emergency Management Agency said in a news release. “That’s good news, because it means we’ve likely met most of the information need, and help remains available through other sources.”
In Chattooga County, the center in the Trion School at 919 Allgood St. will shut down, officials said, and in Catoosa County, the one in the Learning Center at 36 Muskogee Trail in Ringgold also will close. The centers will close at 7 p.m. Saturday.
But the center in Walker, located in the Walker County Agricultural Center at 10054 North Highway 27 in Rock Spring, will remain open, officials said.
Officials are urging residents to meet face-to-face with specialists at the centers to receive information or assistance after the September floods.
But Federal Emergency Management Agency officials stressed that residents in areas where centers are closing can still get help.
“It is important for people to understand they can still get help at one of the other Disaster Recovery Centers or through the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362,” said FEMA Federal Coordinating Officer Gracia Szczech.
Those affected by the storm should first register for assistance, either online at www.DisasterAssistance.gov or by calling 800-621-FEMA (3362) or TTY 800-462-7585, officials said. The toll-free numbers are staffed seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Help is available in all languages.
