Beverly Anderson
Beverly Brand Anderson departed this life on Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2009.
She was born in Winfield, Kan. on July 20, 1934 to John W. Brand Sr. and Catharine Snyder Brand, of Lawrence, Kan. She was raised and educated in Lawrence, receiving a B.S. in Education from the University of Kansas in 1956. Shortly after graduation Beverly married Robert C. “Bob” Anderson. They lived in Ardmore, Okla.; Oklahoma City, Okla.; Dallas, Texas; and White Bear Lake, Minn., before moving to Signal Mountain, in the fall of 1970. Beverly and Bob have three children, the Rev. Jon R. Anderson, Santa Fe, N.M., Christopher M. Anderson, Evergreen Park, Ill., and Elizabeth A. Meyer, Knoxville.
Beverly’s early career included teaching assignments in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grades in Ardmore and Oklahoma City, Okla. She then took time to be a stay at home mother and homemaker. She returned to teaching in 1984 and retired in 1999 after teaching for many years at Bachman Elementary School where she was much loved by her students. She was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta and an Honorary Life Member of the Tennessee Congress of Parents and Teachers.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Elizabeth, sons, Jon and Chris; granddaughter, Connor; and brother, Jack Brand.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, the Outreach Education Fund at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church, Signal Mountain, or Hospice of Chattanooga.
A memorial service will be conducted at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church today, Oct. 17, at 2 p.m.
Burial will be at Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga with private graveside services.

Dolores Dean Robinson-Baker, 73, formerly of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, Sept. 10, 2009, in Nashville.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank Robinson and Josephine Pierce; and one daughter, Conchita Dearmond-Vines.
Survivors: daughter, Olivia Jane Brittain; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Norma Delozier Darby, 86, passed into the loving arms of her Savior on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Jettie R. Darby; four children, Nancy (Jim) Seagrove, Carol Darby, Peggy (Tony) Kesterson, Ron (Rhonda) Darby; five grandchildren, Alisa Stipanov, Valerie Miller, William Kelley, Kristin Coverly and Glenn Darby; and nine great-grandchildren.
Norma worked for a number of years as a dental assistant for Dr. Larry Hamby. She was known for her crafting abilities, artistry, varied interest and her multiple collections. She was a member of Covenant Baptist Church.
She was dearly loved and will be sadly missed, but remembered for her love of life and the happiness she brought to others. It was a privilege for her family to minister to her during this time of sickness. A special thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga for all they did to help us through this time of loss.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the building fund of Covenant Baptist Church or Hospice of Chattanooga.

Virginia Lee
Virginia Pate Lee, 81, of Signal Mountain, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009.
Virginia was born in Nashville on May 31, 1928. She graduated from Gulf Park Junior College in Gulf Port, Miss., and attended Northwestern University in Chicago, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Virginia married her husband, Bud and they moved to Chattanooga in 1949. She was an active and longtime member of Central Presbyterian Church and Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church, where her husband Bud has served as elder and trustee. Virginia has been involved in the Women’s Ministries, Hospitality Ministers, and the Jones-Carruth Sunday School Class. Virginia served on the Boards of: King College, Children’s Home Chambliss Shelter, Calsted, Ronald McDonald House and Scenic Land School. She was an active member of the DAR, Questers, Signal Mountain Garden Club, and served as a volunteer with Hospice of Chattanooga.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, L.W. “Bud” Lee; children, Pat Lee Martin and husband, David and Less Lee and wife, Cindy; grandchildren, Virginia Pate Martin, Stephen H. Martin, Taylor Lee Vinson and husband, Ross, Sarah Morgan Lee and Carver E. Lee; brothers, Joe Pate and Steve Pate and wife, Suzanne; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the North Chapel and again on Sunday after the service at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.
Services for Virginia will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church with Dr. Bill Dudley officiating. There will be a private burial on Monday at National Cemetery.

Dr. Spiros Zodhiates, 87, of East Brainerd, passed away Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, in a local health care facility.
A Greek-American Bible scholar, author, and ministry innovator, Dr. Zodhiates is known best for his work in the development of AMG (Advancing the Ministries of the Gospel) International with operations in over 40 countries, and for publishing the Hebrew-Greek Key Word Study Bible.

William Atchley Sr.
CLEVELAND — William Leon Atchley Sr., 77, passed away just as he lived, quietly. He went home to be with our Lord and Savior on Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009, at his residence.
He was born in Bradley County on June 5, 1932 and lived here all his life except for the years he spent in serving his country in the United States Air Force. He was a 1951 graduate of Bradley Central High School. He was retired from Combustion Engineering after 31 years and from Bradley Memorial Hospital Hospice after 10 years where he served as the Volunteer Coordinator.
After accepting Jesus Christ as his Savior during his teenage years, he regularly attended church and was ordained as a deacon at Candies Creek Baptist Church many years ago. For over 25 years, and until his passing, he was an active member of Westwood Baptist Church. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He never met a stranger and always enjoyed making new friends, good conversation and a good practical joke.
He was an avid Atlanta Braves fan and for several years after retirement brought season tickets for their spring training, which is held in Disney Wide World of Sports in Kissimmee, Fla. He loved Bradley High School and their athletic programs and spent several years actively involved in the former Loyal Bears Fan Club. He was also a devoted Tennessee football fan and always had a reserved seat in front of the television to watch them play.
He loved to travel and had visited all 50 states, five provinces of Canada and several places in Mexico. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years and got to visit several European countries. He enjoyed camping and made lots of friends doing so. As a young man he was an avid quail hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bill” Hooper Atchley and Elsie Wanda Bowlin Atchley. He also was preceded in death by his in-laws, J.B. and Mazie Woody; and brother-in-law, Perry Randall “Randy” Woody.
Surviving are his wife of more than 52 years, Bobbie J. Woody Atchley; sons, Richard “Rick” S. Atchley and wife, Lisa, of Chattanooga and William L. “Chuck” Atchley Jr. and wife, Amy, of Cleveland; three wonderful grandchildren who were the pride and joy of his life, Chanda L. Strickland and husband, Jimmy, of Chattanooga, William L. “Will” Atchley III, of Cleveland and Daniel R. Atchley, of Knoxville; sister, Wilma D. Atchley, of Cleveland; and brother-in-law, John D. Woody and wife, Matt, of Seguin, Texas.
A celebration of his life will be held on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, beginning at 2 p.m. at Westwood Baptist Church with Harold Reno and the Rev. Jimmy Caywood officiating.
There will be no interment as he had donated his body to the University of Tennessee at Memphis Medical School.

FARRAGUT — Virgil Bruce Campbell, 64, passed away Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009.

Ralph Cochran
CLEVELAND — Ralph Leonard Cochran, 66, passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 14, 2009, in a Chattanooga hospital.
Mr. Cochran was the son of the late Juanita Green Cochran and Clint Cochran. His wife, Jody Waddell Cochran; his sister, Eunice Cochran; his maternal grandparents, Clarence and Cora Green; and his paternal grandparents, Joe and Annie Cochran also preceded him in death.
Mr. Cochran worked for the Soram Co. in Nashville for five years and he retired from the R.G. Berry Co. as Plant Manager with 15 years of service. He was a pilot and enjoyed working on the farm riding his tractor. Mr. Cochran attended Fairview Church of God of Prophecy.
Survivors include his son, Gregory Cochran, of Cleveland; his granddaughters, Shelley Tapley and her husband, Clay and Ashley Painter and her husband, Mike, both of Cleveland; his great-grandchildren, Atticus and Sophie Tapley, both of Cleveland, his sisters, Bobbie Morrison and her husband, Ronald and Nita Millaway and her husband, Ed, all of Cleveland, Janice Spicer and her husband Mitch, of Rock Springs, Ga., and Diane Locke and her husband, Donald, of Chatsworth, Ga.; his brothers, David Cochran and his wife, Judy and Dale Cochran, all of Cleveland; his friend, Margaret Cochran, of Cleveland and several nieces and nephews also survive.
The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. from the North Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes with Rev. Eric Washburn officiating.
Interment will follow in Sugar Creek Cemetery with family and friends serving as pallbearers.

CLEVELAND — Bettye Trimm Moore, 77, died Thursday, Oct. 15, 2009.
She was the daughter of the late Daisy Price Trimm and Kramer Trimm.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Virgil Trimm, Malcolm Trimm; and sister, Inez Wells.
Mrs. Moore was a graduate of Bradley Central High School and worked for many years as an executive secretary. She was a talented singer and musician. She was member of Michigan Avenue Baptist church, where she was a organist for 14 years.

Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
