Gail A. Cox, of Chattanooga, known to family and friends as “Duke” departed this earthly life to enter into the arms of God on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009.
She was the daughter of Willie Mae Cox and the late Phillip Cox Sr.
She was a graduate of Riverside High School class of 1975.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at the Trammell Chapel with Phillip Cox Jr. officiating.
The body will lie in state Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of service at the Trammell Chapel, Hardwick & Sons Funeral Home.
Humphrey Lamont Gaines, 58, was ushered into the presence of the Lord on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009.
After high school, he enlisted into the US Air Force. He was a retired employee of the City of Chattanooga.
His parents, William and Dorothy Gaines; as well as brothers, William Jr. and Winston; sisters, Bettye Kendrick, Melanie Hammonds and June Gaines, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Jacqueline; son, Jarrell; daughters, La Toya and Jarren; adopted daughter, Kiana Moorer; sisters, Sandra Sewell and Dorneata Johnson; brothers-in-law, Aaron (Patricia) Sims, Anthony (Yvonne) Sims, Thaddeus (Sarita) Sims and Patrick Sims; sister-in-law, Myrna Cooper, a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held noon on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Olivet Baptist Church with Pastor Kevin Adams Sr. and Pastor Aaron Sims Sr. officiating.
Interment in National Cemetery.
The body will lie in state after noon today with the family receiving friends from 6–7 p.m. this evening at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Avenue, 622-9995.
Anita Godfrey, 69, of Hixson, passed away at a local health care facility on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009.

Nadia Robinson Horton, 79, left this life to be with her Lord on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009.
She was born in Chattanooga on March 26, 1930, and was a 1948 graduate of Central High School, where she was a senior class representative and voted most friendly. She loved being outdoors, where she enjoyed hiking and working in the garden.
She was a loving Christian wife, mother, and grandmother and was a member of Red Bank Church of Christ. She will always be remembered for her precious smile, care and concern in encouraging others.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover Cleveland and Mary Eula Robinson.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Joseph F. Horton Jr.; two sons, Joey and his wife, Teresa, and Terry and his wife, Kaye, all of Chattanooga; two grandsons, Joseph and his wife, Lauren, of Winchester, Tenn., and Patrick, of Chattanooga; two sisters, Sybil Sentell and Maxine Wheeler, both of Chattanooga; one brother, Grover C. Robinson Jr. and wife, Mattie Lou, of Knoxville, and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. today and 10:30-11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the North Chapel.
Services for Nadia will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at the North Chapel with Ministers Joseph Horton and Steve Lusk officiating.
Burial will follow in National Cemetery.

Patricia Ann “P.J.” Hughley, 67, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009, in a local hospital.
She was a 1960 graduate of Howard High School and was employed by Erlanger Hospital for 35 years. She was of the Baptist faith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse and Gladys Jackson; brothers, Edward and Randy Jackson; sisters, Joyce Husband and Mary Ruth Willis.

J.B. Millard, 90, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at a local hospital.
He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, had attended Charity Baptist Church, was an avid Braves fan, and also enjoyed fishing. As a young man, Mr. Millard boxed with the Golden Gloves in Chattanooga.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille Millard; two sons, Wylie Tallent and Randy Millard; and two brothers, Archie and Lebron Millard.
Survivors include his daughter, Judy (Larry) Teague, of Dumfries, Va.; son, Ardell (Charlotte) Millard, of Georgetown, Tenn.; daughter-in-law, Lisa Tallent, of Chattanooga; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Jack A. Mitchell, 81, of East Ridge, passed away on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Loudon, Tenn. He was a member and usher at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a graduate of Loudon High School. He was a retired electrician from Service Electric and a member of IBEW 175. He was also a member of the Alhambra Shrine and American Legion Post 95.
Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Nadine Mitchell; children, Ann (Mike) Craft, Jackie Mitchell, and Ron Mitchell; and grandchildren, Josh (Stephanie) Craft and Lesley Ann Craft.

He was a member of New Jerusalem Baptist church until his health failed.

Edna Lee Walker, 75, lifelong resident of Chattanooga, passed away at a local health care facility on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009.
Edna retired from TVA with over 15 years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Tarvil and Annie Qualls; husband, Carl “Chop” Walker; daughter, Deborah Walker, and several brothers and sisters.

JASPER — Carl Hembree Blevins, 68, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday morning, Oct, 17, 2009, at Parkridge Hospital in Chattanooga.
The son of the late John and Maggie Ruth Durham Blevins, he was born in New Hope, Tenn. on May 1, 1941.
Carl was employed by Jenkins and Darwin Department Stores in his early years. He was a shipping foreman and safety foreman at Tennessee Alloys Plant in Kimball, Tenn. and Bridgeport, Ala. for 27 years. Carl was elected as Assessor of Property in Marion County in 1996 and served until his retirement in 2004.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his first wife, Louise Rust Blevins; and brother-in-law, Tom Smith.

He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Bearden.
L.W., who had a lifelong interest and involvement in cattle farming and real estate, was retired from The National Life and Accident Insurance Company with over 40 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Elva Sizemore Roberts.
He is survived by his sons and daughter-in-law, Lendall Roberts, Mike and B.J. Roberts; daughters and son-in-law, Lavene Guthrie and Jeanine and Robert H. He was born in Chattanooga to the late Jesse and Velma Hope; and was preceded in death by a son; and wife, Dora Jean Hope.
Mickey retired from Mueller after 30 years of service.

RINGGOLD — Dorothy Drew Holland Preston, 90, died Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009, at the home of her granddaughter.
She was a native of Dekalb County, Ala., and was the daughter of the late Will and Maude West Holland.
Mrs. Preston was retired from the Wiser Lock Co. after several years of service and was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Preston.
