Stella Capps

Stella Capps, 88, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, in an area hospital.

She was the daughter of the late Wess and Angeline Swanner of Hendon, Tenn. She was an employee of Town and Country Restaurant of over 30 years.

Survivors include two nieces Juanita Stone and Bobbi Couch, both of Chattanooga; several other nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Hamilton Memorial Gardens with Rev. Bert Jones officiating.

Johnny Chadwick

Johnny Ray Chadwick, 33, of Chattanooga, passed away on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009.

He was preceded in death by his father, William S. Rogers; and mother, Myra Jo Chadwick; grandmother, Johnnie Hamilton.

He is survived by his grandmother, Bobbie Bales McClain; son, Joshua E. Ray Lee; two daughters, Miranda Kay Lee and Leslie Jo Lee; two brothers, Stevie and Josh Stalyon; one sister, Meredith Stalyon; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at graveside Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at noon. Interment will follow.

The family will receive friends Thursday for one hour from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Teresa Charlesworth-Jones

Teresa Smith Charlesworth-Jones, of Chattanooga, passed away on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009.

She was preceded in death by infant twin daughters and her father, Raymond F. Smith Sr.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Jones; son, David Charlesworth; daughter Christina Charlesworth Howard; mother, Doris Smith; granddaughter, Abagail Howard; grandsons, Christian Charlesworth and Lance Warren; sister, Susan Randall; and brothers, Randy Smith and Tim Smith.

There will be no visitation at the funeral home.

Robert A. England, 63, of Soddy Daisy, died on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009.

Martha S. Evans, 88, of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009.

John Farris

John "Big J." Farris, 64, of Hixson passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at a local hospital.

He was of the Baptist faith. He was a retired school bus driver and was an avid C.B. operator.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie Farris; parents, Jerry and Nettie Farris.

He is survived by his sons, Stan Farris, Jonathan Farris; brother, Deannie Farris; sister, Teresa Farris; two grandsons that he was very fond of; Jonathan "Little Man" Farris and Dustin Farris.

Daniel Gaskill

Daniel Jeff Gaskill, 55, of Chattanooga, died Monday, Oct. 20, 2009, in a local health care facility.

Mr. Gaskill was a member of First United Methodist Church of Jacksonville, Fla., and was a retired meat cutter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland and Dupre Gaskill.

Survivors include his sister, Beth Ann (Don) Langford, East Ridge; brother, Gary L. Gaskill, Chattanooga; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Stateroom with the Rev. Kenny Bailey officiating.

Interment will be in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

James Gee

James Gee, 63, passed away Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at a local hospital.

Louis was born in Gainesville, Ala. His formative years were spent in Bessemer, Ala. He attended Tuskegee Institute and Tennessee State University. He was employed at GMAC for 30 years.

Brother Gee accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bessemer, Ala. After relocating to Chattanooga in 1969, the Gee Family united with Orchard Knob Baptist Church. He served faithfully as Chairperson of the Orchard Knob Community Development Corporation, Leader of The Prayer Warriors, Sunday School teacher, member of Finance Ministry, The Corporate Board, Trustee Ministry and Deacon Ministry.

He was preceded in death by parents, Lewis and Bertha Gee.

He is survived by wife, Mary Joyce Gee; daughter, Jamiku L. Gee; sister, Florida Morris; brothers, James Arthur (Dorothy) Gee, Danville, Ill., and John David (Arkadella) Gee, Bessemer, Ala.; aunts, Orangie Lee Hill and Willie Lee Yarbrough; one brother-in-law; six sisters-in-law; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at noon Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Orchard Knob Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Harold K. Lester officiating.

Raymond Haven Sr.

Raymond E. Haven Sr., 71, departed this life on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, in a local health care facility.

He started his family and career in Monterey, Calif., with wife Emillia Roscelli-Haven. He was a veteran of the Korean War. He was of Baptist faith and previous owner of many businesses in Monterey, Calif. and Chattanooga area.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Marie C. Haven; son, Richard Haven; and uncle, Herman Haven.

Raymond Haven was well known by all that knew him for his personality, quick wit, and love for life.

Survivors include father, Gerald (Lois) Haven, Chattanooga; brother, Bill (Lavonne) Haven, Pensacola, Fla.; children Raymond Jr. (Teal) Haven, of Ooltewah, Roderick Haven, Vanessa Haven, Sacramento, Calif., Robert Haven, of Georgia, and David Cunningham, of Indiana. He was also blessed with eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Thursday at 11:30 a.m. in the Valley View Chapel with Father Gordon C. Temple officiating.

Burial will follow at Ooltewah Cemetery.

Nathan Jones

Nathan Keith Jones, 28, died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009.

He was a beloved husband, father, son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle and friend to all who knew him.

He was born in Little Rock, Ark., and was a 1999 graduate of Soddy-Daisy High School, in Soddy-Daisy. He later served for seven years in the U.S. Army Reserves, as a Sergeant, E-5, with the Tennessee 844th Engineering Division, and honorably returned from a tour to Iraq (Operation Iraqi Freedom) in 2005. He also was a corrections officer for the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department. Thereafter, he became a Federal Agent for the National Nuclear Security Administration, and was assigned to the Eastern Command in 2007.

He was an Eagle Scout, and loved basketball and outdoor activities. He was also a gifted story-teller, and brought smiles and laughter to all he came in contact with. His life was filled with selfless acts of Christian service, and his legacy and warm heart will be long remembered.

Nathan was predeceased by his brother, Josh; his grandfather, Ernest Jenkins; and his uncle, Mike Jenkins.

He is survived by his wife, Nicole; his children, Addison and Natalie Jones; his daughter, Bailee Jones (daughter of Kelli Jones); his mother and father, Debbie and Keith Jones; his sister, Jennifer (Jason Isaacson); his brother, Brandon, and his "adopted" brother, Patrick Kidd. He also is survived by his niece, Emma; his grandmother, Polly Jenkins; and his uncle, Mark Jenkins (Peggy).

Services for Nathan will be held Thursday at noon at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Chapel at 3067 Ooltewah-Ringgold Road, Ooltewah, TN 37363 with President Richard G. Youngblood presiding and Bishop Douglas A. Liening officiating.

Burial will follow in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Irene M. Locklin, 99, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2009.

She was a member of Second Missionary Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Locklin; daughter, Lorraine Maddox; son, Ezzard Charles Maddox.

Survivors includes: daughters, Hazel M. Simmons, Gloria Jean Smith; sons, Clinton (Jack) Maddox, Reese (Mary) Maddox, and Curtis Maddox Jr.; 12 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; one cousin and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mary Frances Marlin

Mary Frances Marlin, 87, of Chattanooga passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at her home.

She grew up with three older brothers and attended St. Elmo Elementary, Dickinson, and Chattanooga High School, graduating in 1940, at a time when World War II had started for Europe and Asia, but not yet for the United States. She went to Wesleyan College in Macon, Ga., and graduated in 1944. She was elected president of her class. In August before her senior year, she married Chick Marlin. She and Chick loved each other deeply throughout their marriage. He died in 1983. Mary Frances taught school for 30 years in the Hamilton County system. Almost all that time was spent in the classroom, teaching history, civics, and reading to elementary and junior high school students.

Mary Frances was a member of the Freedom Foundation and the Missionary Ridge Garden Club. Most importantly, she was a member of St. Elmo United Methodist Church for almost all of her life. As the church members here will confirm, she was an active and contributing member.

Mary Frances Marlin is survived by her only child, Charles B. Marlin III; and daughter-in-law, Marie Marlin; two grandchildren, Stesha Ross and Ben Ross; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at St. Elmo Seventh-day Adventist Church with the Rev. Mark Dowell officiating.

Burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Bill Robertson, Wallace Robertson, Sam Robertson, Paul Alvin Robertson, Glenn Robertson, Andrew Robertson, Ben Ross, Daniel White and Len Hubble.

Rev. Jesse Nolan

Rev. Jesse C. Nolan, 81, of Hixson, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009.

He was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II.

He was a retired Baptist Minister and was a pastor for 53 years in the Chattanooga, Cleveland and North Georgia areas. Rev. Nolan had pastored 10 churches most recently, Lakeway Baptist Church. He was currently a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He had a radio ministry for many years.

Jesse Nolan was preceded in death by his first wife, Billye Ruth Nolan; father, Walter L. Nolan; mother, Gertrude Stewart Nolan; brothers, Stewart Nolan, Taylor Nolan, Billy Nolan and Nathan Nolan.

He is survived by his wife, Myrna M. Nolan; sons, Larry D. (Beverly) Nolan and James A. (Allyson) Nolan; sisters, Juanita (Louie) McDaniel and Betty Lou (Joe) Murray; grandchildren, Bob (Jeanniee) Nolan, Evin (Jim) Norris and Jessica (Bert) Gann; six great-grandsons; stepsons, Phillip L. (Connie) Turner and David M. Turner; several nieces and nephews.

Mildred O'Neal

Mildred Adcox O'Neal, 88, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, at a local hospital.

Mildred was a very active community person who had worked with scout and church groups over the years and had worked many jobs over the years the most recent being a secretary for the state of Tennessee Education Department.

Her true love was riding motorcycles with her husband; they had covered most of the country going on vacation trips and Motor Maid Conventions.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles O'Neal Sr., parents, Richard and Sophia Adcox, brothers, J.T. Adcox and Richard Adcox.

Survivors include her son, Charles L. O'Neal Jr.; daughter-in-law, Carol A. O'Neal; grandchildren, Ellen J. O'Neal, Ian E. O'Neal, Lauren E. O'Neal; sisters-in-law, Katherine O'Neal, Geraldine Adcox; nephews, Douglas Adcox, Mike O'Neal.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 23, at the North Chapel.

John G. Randolph, 81, of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at a local healthcare facility.

Joseph Richards Sr.

Joseph William Richards Sr., 78, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, Oct, 20, 2009, in a local hospital.

He was born Dec. 7, 1930 in Glasgow, Ky., to the late Dr. Clifton and Georgia Williams Richards.

He was a 1948 graduate of Columbia Military Academy in Columbia, Tenn., attended Vanderbilt University from 1948 to 1950, served in the United States Airforce from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War, and in 1956 graduated from the George Washington University.

Mr. Richards volunteered at the Community Kitchen, Innerfaith Senior Services, and with Contact of Chattanooga.

He was a National Bank Examiner from 1956 to 1966 at which time he began with Suntrust Bank where he retired after 27 years of service.

Mr. Richards joined First Baptist Church of Chattanooga in 1966 and was a member of the Courtney Parks Sunday School Class. He also served for many years as a Deacon.

His sisters, Margaret Johnston, Doris Follis, and brother, John Richards preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Martha Richards; son, Joseph William "Bill" Richards Jr. and his wife, Karen; daughter, Amanda Margaret Richards; grandsons, Austin William Richards and Jacob Joseph Richards, all of Chattanooga.

The family would like to thank the following people for their special care and concern for Mr. Richards: Dr. Derek Holland and the many oncology caregivers at Memorial 400 East, Hospice of Chattanooga Unit at Memorial Hospital, caregivers, Evelyn Turner and Fannie Stanton.

Sara "Granny" Frances Watkins, 64, of Chattanooga passed away Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009.

She was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and of the Baptist faith. She has worked for many years as a cashier at convince stores in the Chattanooga area. She enjoyed watching NASCAR and Tennessee Football while being the family instigator, but most of all she was still an Elvis Fan.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Crawford Elmo Watkins Sr.; parents, Harry and Eva Swihart; daughter, Janet Ann Willerson; brother William Babb.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Eva and Robert Hunter, of Calhoun; son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie and Tonya Mathely, of Ringgold; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Gary Whaley, 62, of East Ridge, passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, in a local hospital.

He was a loyal member of Spring Creek Road Baptist Church for over 50 years. Gary was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Vietnam. He was a graduate of East Ridge High School and the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. He had been employed with Service Merchandise over 25 vears and for the past 10 years had worked as the custodian at Spring Creek Road Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Manson and Helen Whaley; step-mother, Mary Whaley; and sister, Shirley Duckett.

Survivors include his sisters, Nancy McRoy, of East Ridge and Connie (Michael) Hughes, of Chatsworth, Ga.; nieces and nephews, David McRoy and Fiancee, Amber Fleming, of East Ridge, Angie and Joey Dashler, of Dalton, Ga., and Chrissie and Tommy Stewart, of Dalton, Ga.; great-nieces, Bailey Dashler, Chloe Dashler, Mallory Stewart and Madison Stewart.

Nellie Dodson

SPRING CITY -- Nellie Mae Dodson, 95, passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at the Roane Medical Center, Harriman, Tenn.

Mrs. Dodson was born Aug. 25, 1914, in Rhea County, Tenn., and was the daughter of the late Jack and Maude Boles. Mrs. Dodson was a member of Spring City Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, John Chester Dodson; sons, Chester Allen Dodson and Donald Dodson; and grandson, Tony Dodson.

Survivors include brother, Harley Boles, of Spring City; sister, Helen Etheridge, of Mount Juliet, Tenn.; son, Noal Dodson; son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Barbara Dodson; daughter-in-law, Ilene Dodson, all of Spring City; son and daughter-in-law, Clark and Bonnie Dodson, of Ten Mile, Tenn.; two grandsons, Scotty Dodson, of Spring City, David Dodson, of Ten Mile; one granddaughter, Donna Knox, of Spring City; two stepgrandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter.

Robert Frazier

McMINNVILLE -- Robert Lynn Frazier, 60, passed from this life on Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009, of an extended illness at his residence.

Robert was born Feb. 12, 1949 in Sequatchie County, to William A. Frazier and Cyretha Skyles Harvey.

He was the widower of Helen J. Hobbs Frazier of McMinnville.

He was a retired Postman and a member of Way of the Cross Baptist Church.

He served proudly in the U.S. Army as a SPC in the Vietnam War and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

Robert is survived by his mother, Cyretha Skyles Harvey, of Dunlap Tenn.; two daughters, C. Lynette Frazier, of Nashville, R. Rena and husband Charlie Garrett, of Crossville, Tenn.; one sister and three brothers; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends also survives. He is also survived by two grandchildren, Roseann Garrett and Elizabeth Wright.

Preceded in death by his wife, Helen J. Hobbs Frazier; father, William A. Frazier; two brothers, Ray Harvey and Jimmy Don Cookston.

Funeral service for Mr. Robert Lynn Frazier will be held at Love-Cantrell & Cope Funeral Home Chapel, McMinnville, at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009 with Brother Ray Skyles officiating.

Interment will follow in Mt. Zion Cemetery McMinnville, Military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173.

Family will receive friends today, Oct. 21, 2009 from 5 to a 8 p.m. also Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. to the time of the service at Love-Cantrell & Cope Funeral Home.

Masonic Rites service will be held at 7 p.m. today.

McDONALD -- Ricky Thompson, 63, died Sunday, Oct. 18, 2009.

McDONALD -- Zebb Webb, 99, died Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009.

RINGGOLD -- Doris Shirley, 68, passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at her home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William "Bill" Shirley; parents, Myrtice Estelle and Robbie Lee Allen; brother, Robert "Bob" Allen.

She is survived by her daughters, Angela McDonald, Diana (Philip) Johnson; brothers, Lavoy Allen, Rev. Carroll (Donna) Allen; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, 2009, at Ringgold Church of God with the Rev. Carroll Allen, Rev. Harold Swaggerty and Rev. Luke Williams officiating.

Burial will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Morris and Patty West, Rising Fawn; daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Fred Thomas, Rising Fawn; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and A.C. Durham, Trenton; four grandchildren, Jason and wife, Teri West, Joni and husband, Shan Anderson, Kelly Thomas, Jayme Thomas; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday in the Trenton chapel of Moore Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Crider and the Rev. A.C. Durham officiating.

Interment will follow in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.
