Update: One killed, one missing in Carter County plane crash

ROAN MOUNTAIN — One person has been killed and another is unaccounted for in a plane crash in Carter County this afternoon.

Carter County authorities reported the crash just before 2 p.m. today in the Tiger Creek community near Roan Mountain.

Kathleen Bergen, communications manager for the Federal Aviation Administration's Southern Regional office in Atlanta, said the plane crashed into the side of a mountain, but the office had not yet received information on the type of aircraft or its call sign.
