Wednesday's schedule (All times Eastern)

At Middle Tennessee State University

Baylor beat St. Agnes 3-1 on Saturday and earned a spot in next week's semifinals of the Division II-AA high school volleyball tournament. The host Lady Red Raiders, who are No. 2-seeded from the East/Middle Region, won by game scores of 25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-19.

East/Middle regular-season champion Father Ryan defeated GPS 3-1 at Nashville on Saturday in another quarterfinal. Game scores were 25-15, 25-19, 21-25, 25-18.

Division II-AA and Division II-A state-tournament matches will be held Wednesday at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro. Action in both classifications moves to Middle Tennessee State University for Thursday and Friday.

Baylor (29-11) was in control most of its match but never by a comfortable enough margin for coach Sarah Lail to feel at ease until the end. The Lady Raiders never trailed until St. Agnes went up 15-14 in the third game. However, they never led by more than the seven-point advantage they owned in game two.

"The girls stayed really composed the whole time," Lail said. "They have a great big blocker and a great outside hitter, but we stuck with our game plan and the girls battled their way through."

Rachel Travis put down 20 kills for Baylor and Leslie Franklin set 41 assists. Katelyn Armstrong led with 13 digs and three aces.

GPS coach Paul Brock said he felt like his team played a little tight from the beginning. He acknowledged that Father Ryan is a good team and the big crowd it had added to the difficulty of the situation.

"We had a bunch of illnesses and injuries to our starters," Brock said, summarizing the season. "A lot of our young kids got to play a lot, so that laid a lot of groundwork for next year."

Tory Kemp led the net play for the Bruisers with 12 kills, and she and Jordan Grant had four blocks apiece. McKenzie Stokes topped GPS (22-26) with 15 digs, and Kat Knarr was the assists leader with 16.

* Georgia AAA state: At Riverdale, Ga., Ringgold's season ended in the state final eight with a 25-18, 20-25, 25-15, 25-13 loss to Oconee County. Tiffany Gent had 11 kills and five blocks and Michala Askew had 25 assists for Ringgold (21-14-1), which got six kills apiece from Kendall Williams and Allie Fairchild.
