Chattanooga: Activist tells Baylor students Kurdish culture ‘slated for extinction’

Kurdish activist Kani Xulam spoke to about 650 upper school Baylor students this morning about the situation of Kurds in the Middle East.

“Our culture is slated for extinction,” said the founder of the American Kurdish Information Network in Washington, D.C., a nonprofit organization that works on behalf of the Kurdish people.

Mr. Xulam was born and raised in Turkey until the age of 19, when he migrated with his family to the United States.

After seeing the abuse and killing of the Kurds in Turkey, he decided to start the organization to create awareness and bring about change, he said.

“My purpose is not to make you sad, or to withdraw from society, but to make you a little angry” and leave the chapel wanting to make a difference, he told the students.

Kurdish activist Kani Xulam entered the United States illegally and continuously lied about his past until caught and tried by the U.S. Department of Justice. He then used well connected American politicians on the Hill and journalists in the media elsewhere to misrepresent him like an innocent victim of a brutal regime to exert pressure on the court system. The court never knew his terrorist background or the innocent Turkish victims gunned down by his organization, PKK, recognized as a terrorist organization by the U.S. Department of State.

On the Kurdish culture, Kani Xulam continues to distort and falsify facts. Kurdish culture may be slated for extinction but not because of political persecution. Rather it is an inhuman culture where women are bought, sold, abused, insulted, beaten, and even killed, in the name of so-called “honor” and the children are seen as cheap laborers, slaves, ignorant killers (remember honor killings?) fanatic figthers, and suicide bombers. This is the Kurdish culture, a tribal, male dominated, brutal system, that makes mockery of human rights as misrepresented by an illegal-alien-turned-deceiving-citizen. This is the culture slated for extinction. Can any well educated, human, civilized person respecting women’s rights, children’s rights, human rights feel sorry for the extinction of a brutal, tribal Kurdish culture? Shouldn’t all law abiding, human-rights respecting, peace-loving people help expedite this extinction process of a male-dominated-tyranny brutalizing women and children disguised “culture”?

"InformedAmerican", I think what you post is highly ironic when looking at your name. You very obviously have no idea what Kurdish Culture is and what it truly entails. I suggest you read beyond the propaganda if you'd really like to learn something and in fact become an "informed American".

Also, as a Kurdish woman and a feminist, I am deeply offended by your claims of "women are bought, sold, abused, insulted, beaten and even killed" because this does not exist as a part of our culture - or anyone else's for that matter. You have a distorted definition of the word "culture" to begin with. I really suggest you do some background reading on the topic of "Kurdish culture" before assuming you know anything about it.

Lastly, the PKK are freedom fighters who believe strongly in feminism and just because the US (which has interests in Turkey due to its location) says they are a terrorist organisation, it does not make it so.

PKK is a murderous terrorist organization which uses ignorant young Kurdish kids a "highly drugged, suicide bombers" to kill civilians. They routonely rape their women in mountain caves and the cavesides are full of corpses of deceived Kurdish women who rebelled against PKK leaders.

But all that is only the tip of the iceberg. PKK raises funds by drug trafficking in Europe (and recently in America, too.) PKK also benefits from human trafficking of illegal aliens, sex slaves shipped to Europe, and taxing of the smuggling of petroleum over the borders. PKK is a crime machine with no scruples.

Kurdish culture which thinks nothing of the women and children and which gave birth to such a killing machine should not be allowed to stand in any civilize community, Turkey or the United States.

PKK and its supporters here are unfortunate aberrations of human civilization. Agreeing to PKK's murderous ways and inhuman Kurdish culture that feeds it is like agreeing to El Qaeda's survival and Taliban's culture.

Period.
