ASK A DIETITIAN

Q: I have heard that salmon is the best way to get omega-3 fatty acids in my diet, but I don't like fish. What are other sources of omega-3, and why is it good for us?

A: Monosaturated fats and omega-3 fatty acids are known as "good fats" and help main-tain a healthy heart. These fats help lower the blood levels of LDL cholesterol, also known as the "bad cholesterol." Other sources of good fats include olive oil, flaxseed oil, flaxseeds, avocado, soybeans, canola oil, walnut oil, walnuts and leafy greens.

-- Tess Canlas, clinical nutrition manager at Memorial Health Care System
