Pedestrian struck and killed in Hixson Tuesday night

A pedestrian was struck and killed Tuesday night in the 6400 block of Hixson Pike, according to the Chattanooga Police Department.

Lt. Kim Noorbergen, police information officer, said Rex A. Curtis was traveling north on Hixson Pike around 9 p.m. when Charles A. Laymon, 40, apparently walked into traffic.

Mr. Curtis told police he tried to avoid hitting the Hixson resident by swerving to the turning lane, but he had already made contact with the victim. Mr. Laymon was pronounced dead on the scene by Hamilton County EMS.

No charges have been filed.
