Margaret Bowman

Margaret A. Bowman, 72, of Hixson, born to the late Elberta and Woodrow Shea of Savannah, Ga., passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at her home.

She was a lifelong resident of the Dallas Bay area in Hixson. She was retired from McKee Baking Co. and was employed by Red Lobster in Hixson. Margaret was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

She was also preceded in death by her sons, Ernest and James Boaen, both of Hixson.

She is survived by her children, Marion (Jessee) Jackson, of Hixson, Richard (Nancy) Lawhorn, of Virginia Beach, Va., Billy (Carla) Boaen, of Hixson, Jerry Boaen, of Dayton, Tenn.; sister, Patty Shea; grandchildren include Jessee, Shelly, Amber, Brian, Jeremy, Devon, Davey, Justin, Carlie, Jamie Lynn, Samantha, Brooke, Paula and Kara; great-grandchildren, Brittany, Autumn, Danni, and Ashley; special friend, Junior Bowman. Margaret will be greatly missed, she was a friend to many and loved by all.

A Celebration of Life service will be 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Ray Williams officiating.

Family will receive friends from 2-9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Brenda Annette Gatlin, 57, of Lookout Valley, passed away Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009.

Erma Gilbert

Erma Jean Gilbert, 68, of Chattanooga, passed into the loving arms of her Savior on Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at her residence.

The lifelong native of Chattanooga is survived by her husband of 46 years, Trammell L. Gilbert; seven children, Kathy (John) Sligh, Stephanie Kelly Williams, Todd (Pearline) Kelly, all of Chattanooga, Vickie (Timothy) Thomas, of Varnell, Ga., Gary Kelly, of Alexandria, La., Jeffrey (Loretta) Kelly, of Oakland, Calif., Leslie (John) Gilbert-Willhite, of West Covina, Calif.; parents, James and Catherine Kelly; brothers, Michael and Mark Kelly; sister, Linda Kelly, all of Plantsville, Conn.; two sisters-in-law, Willie Mae Evans and Glenda Welcher, of Chattanooga; 20 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral: Saturday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Alfred Johnson officiating.

Burial: Highland Memorial Gardens.

The body will lie in state today after 12:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joe Gribben

Joseph Gribben, 81, of Chattanooga, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, in a local hospital.

He was born July 11, 1928 to the late James and Lenora Gribben.

Mr. Gribben was a 1946 graduate of Notre Dame High School and Assumption College in Windsor, Canada. He was an Ohio Valley Conference Football Official for 15 years, as well as the T.S.S.A.A. for 25 years.

Joe was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Gribben.

Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Marcia Gribben; children, Kathy (Kenny) Mara and Tommy (Theresa) Gribben, all of Hixson; Jodie (Tommy) Wilson, of Nashville; Patty (Bill) Marsh and Gina (Rob) Gaddis, all of Hixson; Jeff Gribben, of Red Bank; brother, Tom (Judith) Gribben, of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Kristy, Kari, Mandy, Pat, Ben, Amy, Tracey, Michael, Matthew, Kelli, Lauren, Lindsey and Abbie; 13 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A memorial mass will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Jude Catholic Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Richard Guess

Richard C. Guess, 68, of Chattanooga died on Monday, Oct. 19, 2009. and was buried on Oct. 24 in Jefferson County.

A memorial service will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Bartlebaugh Baptist Church with the Rev. Don Ferguson officiating.

James Hughes

James William “Buddy” Hughes, 80, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and stepfather, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, with his wife, Joyce, by his side.

Mr. Hughes was born in Chattanooga to Samuel and Ruby Hughes. He was retired from the U.S. Army serving as a first sergeant during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. After retiring he held finance positions at Chrysler and Bank of America until a subsequent retirement. He was of the Christian faith, a member of the Lion’s Club, American Legion Post 95, VFW Post 1289, DAV, and served as an ombudsman for nursing homes in Oklahoma.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy Lucille Hughes; parents; one brother; and one sister.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce E. Hughes; four sisters; five children; four stepchildren; 12 grandchildren; nine step-grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 12:30 p.m. today, Oct. 30, 2009 at the funeral home. A full military committal service honoring Mr. Hughes’ service to his country will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery by the Tennessee Army National Guard Honor Guard and bugler.

Mary Keith

Mary E. Keith, devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother, and known to all of her grandchildren and others who knew her as “Honey” went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009.

She was born May 5, 1913 in Birmingham, Ala., and moved to Chattanooga in her early childhood. She was an avid gardener and took great pride in all her flowers, especially roses. She was a sales associate with Violet Camera Shop for 45 years before her retirement in 1978. She was a member of Central Church of Christ for over 60 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Martin and Bertha Echols; husband, Charles Edward Keith; sisters, Dura Martin, Libby Smith, and Ruth Breneman; brothers, Lewis Echols and Jim Blanton Echols.

She is survived by her only child (daughter), Joyce G. (Boyd) Ochsner; grandchildren, Cindy (Charlie) Cox; Sheri (Lamar) Carter; Charles Edward (Katrina) Gunter; and Aubrey Murray (Allison) Gunter; great-grandchildren, Charlie (Danielle) Cox II, Brooke Carter and Emsley Fortune Gunter, a little angel added on Dec. 14, 2008; sister, Dorothy “Dot” Steffner; special niece, Starr Meade, who gave so much support to Joyce with her mothers illness at Standifer Place, several nieces, great-nieces and nephews, great-nephews; step-grandchildren, Connie (Tony) Love, Gayle (Mike) Kelly, Darryl (Lynda) Ochsner, Deborah, (William) Redman; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Tyner United Methodist Church with Rev. Glen Moseley and David Schonhoff officiating.

Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Mrs. Keith will lie in state from 10-11 a.m. today at the Church.

Kenneth Wayne Levi, 53, of Sale Creek, passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009.

He was a member of Sale Creek First Baptist Church. Mr. Levi was also a member of the Sheet Metal Union Local #5; a member of Soddy Masonic Lodge #418 F&AM, Sale Creek Masonic Lodge #280 F&AM, an honorary member of Red Bank Masonic Lodge #717 F&AM, a member of the Alhambra Shrine Temple, and a member of the Mayflower OES Chapter of the Eastern Star #141.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth B. and Betty Jean Levi.

He is survived by his wife, Delethia Levi; sons, D.J. Levi, Zach Levi; daughter, Stormi Levi Rogers (Josh); sisters, Sandy Levi Green, Debra “Dirkey” Levi; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, 2009, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home followed by a Masonic Service conducted by Soddy Masonic Lodge #418 F&AM.

Burial will follow in Fairmount Cemetery on Signal Mountain.

Ethel Mae McKissic, 89, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, Oct. 25, 2009, in a local healthcare facility.

She was a retired school teacher with the Chattanooga City Schools and was a member of Grace Baptist Tabernacle Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Edith Gilbert; husband, Lake McKissic; daughter, Doris McKissic; son, Gilbert McKissic; sisters, Ophelia Johnson and Elvea Thurman.

Survivors: son, Gerald (Bonnie) McKissic, of Chattanooga; four grandchildren, Anthony McKissic, of Baltimore, Md., Janel McKissic, of Lawrenceville, Ga., Sonya (Dudley) Boudkeauk, of Houston, Texas and Vanessa (Tash) Bowder, of Dallas, Texas; four great-grandchildren; brother, Rev. Ruth Nimley

Ruth Bloh Nimley, 79, of Chattanooga, passed away Monday, Oct. 12, 2009, in a Louisville, Ky. hospital.

She was born in Liberia, West Africa. She was a member of Shekinah Glory Ministries.

Her parents, Thomas and Nyejleh Nimley preceded her in death as well as her brother, Samuel T. Nimley; daughter, Gbedi Nimley and grandson, Ernest Diane’.

Survivors: daughters, Augusta (Harold) Flemister, Ernestine Broderick, both of Chattanooga, Mary Chie, of Queens, N.Y. and Winifred Davis, of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Odessa E. Flemister, of Louisville, Ky., Harold E. Flemister, Ernest Broderick, both of Chattanooga and Precious Peters, of Liberia, West Africa; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Naomi Nimley and Mary Sanso, both of Liberia, West Africa and Irene Wisseh, of Minnesota; several nieces; nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Thomas Parris Jr.

Thomas Nelson Parris Jr., 55, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2009.

He was born Feb. 8, 1954 in Chattanooga to the late Thomas Nelson Parris Sr. and Patricia Kathleen Parris. Mr. Parris worked as an engineer with Aztec Industries for 19 years, and attended Lookout Valley Church of the Nazarene.

He was also preceded in death by his brother, Richard Allen Parris; grandparents, Jesse Clifton Parris and Verla Mae Parris, William and Vera Morgan.

Survivors include two sisters, Teresa and Kathy Parris; two brothers, Joseph and Jimmy Parris, all of Chattanooga; nephew, Richard Duane Parris.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. today, Oct. 30, 2009, in the funeral home chapel.

Dorothy Lee Robinson, 82, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, Oct. 23, 2009, in a local hospital.

She was a member of New Vernon Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the choir. She was employed with the Chattanooga School Patrol.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Frances Brown; stepfather and mother, Doc and Carrie Ervin.

Tom Sircy

Tom Sircy passed away Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at a local hospital.

Tom was born in Jackson Co., Tenn., May 3, 1915 and was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Mary Sircy; five brothers; and one sister.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Dean Sircy; special niece, Mary Sircy Doyle, of Deer Park, Texas; great-great nieces, Kathy and husband David Wright, of Des Moines, Iowa, Karen Sircy, of Norfolk, Va.; great-great-nephews, Jim Sircy, Jay and wife, Tina Sircy, Justin Sircy, all of Burbank, Calif., Joe Sircy, of Cairo, Ill., John and wife Debbie Sircy, of Paducah, Ky.; other great-great-nieces and nephews and many friends.

Tom was a member of the Tennessee Highway Patrol for over 29 years, retiring in 1973. Tom was a devoted faithful member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church for over 58 years, having served as Chairman of the Planning Committee of the new sanctuary when it was built in 1958. He also was a former deacon, trustee and a member of the Property and Grounds Committee. He was an active member of the McAllister Bible Class.

Tom will be missed by his many friends.

His service will be held 2 p.m. today at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1501 N. Moore Road, with the Rev. Jean Richardson, the Rev. Lanny Johnson and Dr. Gary Carver officiating.

Burial will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.

Joe Sircy, John Sircy, Jim Collins, Tom Rusk, Nick Santore, Les Spencer, Jim Liner, Rick Jackson and Jack Felix will serve as pallbearers. Elders, Deacons and the McAllister Bible Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Edgar Vickers

Edgar “Vick” Vickers, 78, of Hixson, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009.

Edgar was born in Manchester, Tenn., and was a longtime resident of the Chattanooga area. He served our country during the Korean War in the U. S. Air Force. Edgar retired from DuPont with over 40 years of service. He was a member of Lupton Drive Baptist Church. Edgar was an avid gardener.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Pervie Crosslin Vickers; siblings, Melvin Vickers and Dean Frizzell.

Edgar is survived by his wife of 48 years, Billie Burns Vickers; daughter and son-in-law, Kim and Allan Gayler; grandson, Ethan Gayler; sisters, Gladys Bell, Lois Frizzell, Lura Green, and Naomi (Herbert) Morrison, all of Manchester, Tenn.; brothers, Claude Vickers and Dickie (Caroline) Vickers, of Manchester, Tenn., Danny (Joan) Vickers, of Murfreesboro; brother-in-law, Culley Frizzell; several nieces and nephews and many friends and family.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. today and noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the North Chapel.

Michael Wright, 66, of Harrison, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, at home surrounded by his family.

He retired from Vulcan Materials Paving Division after 30 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Peggy Wright; his beloved wife of 45 years, Bobbie Wright; and mother-in-law, Poo Singer.

RINGGOLD — Rita Irene Gordy Gilbert, 64, passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at her home with her family beside her.

Rita was born to the late Roy T. and Jo Gordy. She was a lifelong resident of the Ringgold area where she was a member of Ringgold First Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Robert “Bob” Gilbert, of Ringgold; two sons and daughters-in-law, Scott and Christina Gilbert, of Ringgold, and Todd and Susan Gilbert, of Ringgold; four grandchildren, Cade and Callie Gilbert and Marcus and Mackenzie Knight; brother, Roy S. Gordy, of Ringgold, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Dan Whitaker and Dr. Kerry Bunn officiating.

Franklin Henderson

LaFAYETTE — Franklin Lamar Henderson, 65, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009.

He was born in Chattooga County, Ga., to the late John Gordon and Dessie Mae Brock Henderson. He had lived in Chicago, Ill., and Lavonia, Mich., and resided most of his life in Northwest Georgia. His last job had been with the Salvation Army. He enjoyed the outdoors in fishing and hunting. He attended Faith Worship Center in LaFayette.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Barbara Prince, Martha Nation, Polly Vaughn; brother, Alfred Henderson; and a nephew, Gary Wayne Prince.

He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Queen and Frankie Young; son, Lamar Henderson, all of Rock Spring, Ga.; six grandchildren; sisters, Charlotte Arnold, of LaFayette, Betty Jenkins and June Angel, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; brother, J.G. Henderson, of Chickamauga, Ga.; several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends today from 3-9 p.m., all day Saturday and Sunday morning prior to the service.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, in the chapel with the Rev. Russell Swafford and the Rev. Charles McElhaney officiating.

Interment will follow in Chickamauga Cemetery, Chickamauga.

Austin Mullins

TRENTON — Austin D. “Jack” Mullins, 81, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, surrounded by his loving family.

He was of the Baptist Faith. He was a loving father and a loving PaPa, and will be missed by his family and many friends. He was a veteran of WWII.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Easley and Maggie Scallions Mullins; and his loving wife of 63 years, Nellie Jenkins Mullins.

He is survived by two daughters, Carol Mullins, Trenton, Marsha Ann (Ricky) Culpepper, Pensacola, Fla.; three sons, Buddy (Loretta) Mullins, Flat Rock, Ala., James (Pansy) Mullins, Chatsworth, Ga., Eddie (Jennifer) Mullins, Trenton; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews, and his 4 footed Companion Miss Sadie.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. EDT Saturday in the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Wallace officiating.

Interment will be in Trenton Baptist Cemetery.

The family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. today.

Carol Rodriguez

TRENTON — Carol Lea Rodriguez, 70, passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, in a local hospital.

Ms. Rodriguez was of the Jehovah Witness faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh and Genevieve Mitchell; and great-granddaughter, Deliah Brown.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and George Rogers, of Trenton; sister, Joyce Barbour, of Ione, Calif.; two brothers, Robert Mitchell, of Ione, Ccalif., and Donnie Mitchell, of Menroe, Utah; three granddaughters; three great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

LaFAYETTE — Johnny Earl Trull, 45, died Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009.

Memorial service will be held in the Wallis Memorial Chapel Saturday at 2 p.m. Service conducted by the Rev. Ricky Studdard.

There will be no visitation.

Tom Whittemore

RINGGOLD — Tom Chester Whittemore, 50, left this world Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2009, and was welcomed into the loving and sure arms of his Lord God, and Savior Jesus Christ.

He was born in Ringgold, to the late Maynard and Lillian Rhodes Whittemore.

He leaves to cherish his memory his companion and life partner of 28 years, James Cantrell; siblings, David (Felicia) Whittemore, Maynard (Wanda) Whittemore, all of Ringgold, Mitchell Whittemore, of Ellijay, Mary Ann Whittemore, Carol (Earl) Wilson, all of Ringgold, Barbara (Jim) Justice, of Apison; and many nieces and nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.

According to his wishes he will be cremated and a memorial is planned for Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at 2 p.m. at his sister’s home in Apison.

Arrangements are by W.L. Wilson and Sons Funeral Home, Fort Oglethorpe.

BRIDGEPORT — Dorothy Daniels, 94, died Tuesday Oct. 29, 2009.

The family will receive friends today after 10 a.m. CDT.

The funeral will be a graveside service today, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. CDT at Coffey Cemetery. Brother Ed Avans will officiate.
