Rescuers still searching for man in culvert

Rescuers still are searching this afternoon for the man who was flushed away by an overflowing culvert Sunday evening.

The missing man, now identified as 46-year-old Sylvester Kitchens Jr., is presumed drowned, according to Chattanooga Fire Department spokesman Bruce Garner.

Rescue crews with the department of public works and the fire department are monitoring culverts and drainage ditches near the place Mr. Kitchens went missing, 2310 E. 14th St, Mr. Garner said. Crews plan to do a more extensive search when the runoff from recent heavy rains subsides, he said.
