John Davis
John E. Davis, DDS, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, died Tuesday, March 30, 2010, after a courageous battle with leukemia.
Born March 29, 1946 in Wilmington, Del., John was raised in Chattanooga. He graduated from Red Bank High School, the University of Chattanooga, and the University of Tennessee Dental School. He completed his endodontic specialty training at Emory University in Atlanta.
John was a longtime and faithful supporter of UTC athletics, which began when he was a member of the UC golf team. He also was a passionate supporter of any endeavor in which his three children were involved. John practiced endodontics in Chattanooga for 36 years.
Everyone who had the privilege of knowing John will remember his generous spirit, gentle kindness, and loyal devotion to his family and friends.
John was preceded in death by his father, Parma Charlton Davis; and his father-in-law, Mars Udell Reynolds.
He is survived by Lou Reynolds Davis, his loving wife of 38 years; and their three children and two grandchildren, Jennifer (Trey) Smith, Sydney and Bedford, of Murfreesboro, Brent Davis, of New York City, and Dr. Brad Davis, of Chattanooga; He is also survived by his mother, Daisy Davis; his brother, Dr. Charlton (Barbara) Davis, of Charleston; and his sister, Nancy (William) Foster, of Chattanooga. Other survivors are his mother-in-law, Ima Jean Reynolds; and in-laws Pam and Charlie Mason, Jeanie and John Rodgers, all of Chattanooga, and Steve and Judy Reynolds, of Knoxville. Nieces and nephews are Jon and Mark Davis, Reynolds and Barrett Fischer, David, John, and Catherine Foster and Lacey Reynolds.
The family will receive friends today, April 2, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home North Chapel.
A celebration of John’s life will be held Saturday, April 3, at 11:30 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, followed by a private burial.

Evelyn Ferry
Evelyn West Ferry, 83, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010, at a local hospital.
She was a beloved member of Meville Baptist Church. She was secretary at Soddy-Daisy High School for 42 years. She was inducted into Soddy-Daisy High School Hall of Fame in 2009, and she was a member of Kappa Delta Society.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward F. and Grace Teague West; and son, Eddie Ferry.
She is survived by her husband, Ellis Ferry, of Soddy-Daisy; son, Michael (Anita) Ferry, of Scottsboro, Ala.; daughters, June Ferry and Suzanne (Mike) Smith, both of Soddy-Daisy; brother, Gene (Jimmie) West, of Soddy-Daisy; grandson, Matthew Ferry; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, April 3, in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Tom Shoemate officiating.
Interment will follow at Poe Cemetery.

Martha Gaeta
Martha Cooley Gaeta, 87, of Chattanooga passed away on Wednesday, March 31, 2010.
She was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and retired from Combustion Engineering after 30 years of service. She was a member of Bayside Baptist Church.
Martha was preceded in death by her first husband, Warren H. Cooley and her second husband, Joseph Gaeta, and two brothers, Robert Taylor and Coke Taylor.
Survivors are three daughters, Nancy (Don) Norris, of Chattanooga; Susan (Duane) Pontak and Judy Brown, all of Harrison; three grandsons, Jimmy Norris, Michael (Jennifer) Brown and Taylor Brown; three great-granddaughters, Emily Norris, Madison Brown and Alyssa Brown.
A celebration of Martha’s life will be held 10:30 a.m. today, April 2, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Eric Stitts officiating.
Burial will be at Lakewood Memory Gardens, East.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Norris, Michael (Jennifer) Brown, Taylor Brown, Tony Dougard, James Springfield and Mark Springfield.

Ken Hendricksen
Kenneth H. Hendricksen, 72, of McDonald, passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at home surrounded by his loving family.
He was the son of the late Herman and Amy Hendricksen.
Ken was a chemical engineer for 53 plus years, working for Hydrochem and Dow Chemical. Ken was a talented carpenter and furniture maker, leaving his family with many beautiful pieces of furniture to cherish and remember him by. He was a veteran of the Naval Reserves. Ken was very proud of all of his family, and could not do enough for them. Ken was a true and devoted Alabama fan.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Pam; his son and daughter-in-law, James and Brandy Hendricksen, Chattanooga; daughters and sons-in-law, Terri and Tim Smith, Sharpsburg, Ga., Debbi and Wayne Haynes, Luthersville, Ga.; his grandchildren, Elizabeth, Patrick, Colton Hendricksen, Jake Smith, Amanda DePane, Jessica Thompson, John Haynes; four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Joyce and husband, Denny Kibbe and Betty Hendricksen.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at the East Brainerd Chapel, with Don Musick officiating.

Phillip Hibdon
Phillip Douglas Hibdon, 44, a Chattanooga resident of over 20 years, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010.
He was a native of Louisville, Ky. Phillip had been an employee of Baylor School for 20 years.
Survivors include his sister, Sandra (Tim) Niehoff; brother, Ronald Hibdon; niece, Jessica Christine; nephew, Austin Jordan; and friends and family at Baylor School.

Henry McCombs Jr.
Henry Lynn McCombs Jr., 64, of Altamont, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2010.
He was of the Catholic faith and was an avid outdoorsman. He served in the Reserves with the U.S. Marine Corps and was a retired Boiler Maker and a member of the Boilermakers Union Local 454.
He was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Michelle Zeigler Turner; son-in-law, Charlie Turner; parents, Henry L. and Mary Bishop McCombs Sr.; sister, Lou Ellen Baker.
He is survived by his sons, Justin McCombs, of Hixson, Jason McCombs; brothers, Mike (Dale) McCombs, of Sale Creek, Samuel McCombs, of Indiana, Joe (Jennie) McCombs, Paul McCombs, Mary Burchfield, Emma (Thad) Payne, all of Niles, Mich.; several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; special friend, Sharon McCombs, of Hixson.

John McGill
John D. McGill, 93, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2010.
He was a United States Army Air Corp Veteran serving during World War II. He was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church where he served as a former Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. McGill retired from the Hamilton County Property Assessor's Office as Chief Deputy after 25 years of service. He was a member and former Master of Soddy Masonic Lodge 418 F&AM and a 32nd-degree Scottish Rite of Freemasonary member and past Commander of the American Legion Post 107 in Soddy-Daisy.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruthie May McGill; and his parents, Paul C. and Gertrude McGill.
He is survived by his son, Johnny (Susan) McGill; daughters, Jeanne Graham, Pam (Ray) Pippen; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 3, 2010, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Joe Miller officiating.
Burial will follow in Presbyterian Cemetery.

Dorothy Neighbors
Dorothy “Dot” Anne Thompson Neighbors, 89, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 31, 2010.
Dot was born in Nashville, on Feb. 23, 1921, and then moved to Chattanooga. She also lived in Oklahoma and most of her life in California before moving back to Chattanooga in 1994. She was a graduate of Central State University in Edmond, Okla. Dot retired from teaching in Orange County, Calif. and was a member of the California Teachers Association. She was an active member of Calvary Church in Santa Ana, Calif. and attended Chamberlain Memorial Baptist in Chattanooga.
Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Neighbors; her parents, Carl and Elizabeth Thompson and eight siblings.
She is survived by her three children, Jerry (Fran) Neighbors, Barbara Sue (James) Hammerton and Robert L. (Markey) Neighbors III; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the North Chapel.
Services for Dorothy will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the North Chapel with her nephew, the Rev. Lynn Thompson officiating.

Cedric Sowell
Cedric Sowell, 47, of Chattanooga, passed on Thursday March 26, 2010.
He was a member of New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church where he served on The Deacon Board and in The Male Chorus, a graduate of Howard High School, and employed with Chattanooga Times Free Press and also the lead singer of the Spiritual Highlights.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Rena Pride; sister, Stephanie Sowell.
His loving memories will be cherished by: wife, Dorothy Sowell; and son, Derrick Shaw; eight stepchildren; 23 grandchildren; brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Ita Maria Thompson
Ita Maria Fitzpatrick Thompson, 69, of Chattanooga, went to Heaven Tuesday, March 30 of 2010. She was surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Ballinsole, Galway, Ireland, to the late Patrick Fitzpatrick and Bridgette Walsh Fitzpatrick. After graduating high school she moved to the states to attend college and study teaching. She moved back to Ireland and later moved to Italy where she met her husband, Fred Thompson, an American sailor and followed him back to the states where they married and had 3 children. She became a naturalized citizen and began teaching at O.L.P.H school for 15 years and then UTC children’s Center for 21 years, where she retired. Once retired, she engaged in many volunteering services, hobbies and other interests. Included in this is her service at Tennessee Valley Railroad Museum. She will always be remembered as the Story Teller for Thomas the Tank and The North Pole Limited, which she loved. She was a very active member at St. Stephens Catholic Church. She was a loving and caring woman and touched the lives of so many. She will be sadly missed by all that she has met.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Fred “Tiny” Thompson. Siblings include Nuala VanderPlas, of Holland, Patsy Deegan of Ireland, Veronica North, of England, and Michael Fitzpatrick, of Ireland. Children, all of Chattanooga: Cindy Witt (Mark), Mitzi Sanders (Rick Eden), Michael Thompson (Amy). Grandchildren are Christopher Witt, Whitney Sanders, Amber Thompson and Mitchell Sanders.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m on Easter Sunday and again from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday at St. Stephens Catholic Church. The Rev. Gilbert Diaz will celebrate the mass at 9:30 a.m.
Interment will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery at 11 a.m.
A reception following burial will be at St. Stephens Catholic Church.

CHICKAMAUGA — Billy Joe Dodd, 70, went home to be with The Lord Wednesday, March 31, 2010.
He was born in Chickamauga, to the late Kenneth M. and Eula Thelma Bridges Dodd. He retired from Alstom/ABB/Combustion Engineering where he was a draftsman for over 25 years. He was a member of Mountain View Church of Christ. He was a lifelong resident of Chickamauga and enjoyed his family, coaching ball teams and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Jackie Guess, Dorothy Dyer; brothers, James K. Dodd and Thomas Eugene “Ted” Dodd.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mrs. Eleanor Sheridian Selix Dodd, of Chickamauga, his children and their spouses, Chris Morgan, of Chickamauga, Carla and Ricky Copeland, of Montgomery, Ala., Carolyn and Buddy Jones, of Olive Branch, Miss., Clint and Jessi Dodd, of Chickamauga; sister, Katherine Loudema “Lou” Scott, of Rossville; grandchildren, LaShon McWhorter, Michael Morgan, Salina and Sharissa Copeland, Justin, Garret and Kelsey Jones; great-grandchildren, Sydney and Serena McWhorter; several nieces and nephews.

TRENTON — Bobby H. Matheny, 72, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2010, in a local hospital.
Mr. Matheny was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and employed as an electrician with M.K.I.

Doyle McClendon
CHICKAMAUGA — Doyle Granville McClendon, 65, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, March 29, 2010, as the result of an accident in Braselton, Ga.
He was a lifelong resident of North Georgia and a member of Chickamauga Presbyterian Church. Doyle served his country in the United States Army as a member of the 101st Airborne division with highest honors during the Vietnam War, before retiring from Norfolk Southern Railway in 1990.
Doyle was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Easter McClendon.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Higgins McClendon; sons, Michael, of Chattanooga and Marc, of Atlanta; sisters, Deloris Mullins, Faye Gilbert, Pat Beavers, Betty Lackey and Wanda Dockery-Cosby; brothers, Elvis McClendon and Rick McClendon; grandchildren, Ryan, Brooke, Alan, Brittany, Madison, Laura, and Susan; great-grandchild, Lacey Nicole; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be 11 a.m. today, April 2, 2010, at Chickamauga Presbyterian Church with Pastor Bridget Waddell officiating.
Interment to follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service today at the funeral home.

Geneva Pressley
CHICKAMAUGA — Geneva Normajean Snyder Pressley, 78, passed away at a local hospital Tuesday, March 30, 2010.
She was born April 29, 1931 in Chattanooga to the late James and Stella Snyder. She was of the Baptist faith, enjoyed reading, circle wordbooks, gospel music, talking to her sisters, and spending time with her family. She was a very loving and devoted mother and grandmother.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Howard Nolon Pressley; daughter, Linda Faye Pressley; daughter-in-law, Robin Pressley.
Survivors include four children and spouses, Larry and Gwen Pressley, of LaFayette, Robert (Tammy Justus) Pressley, of Chickamauga, Patsy and Ronnie DaVault, of Ooltewah, Nancy and Steve Holder, of Ringgold; three sisters, Edna Craze, of Greenville, S.C., Aline Leamon, of Columbus, Ga., and Reba Wilkins, of Thomaston, Ga.; five grandchildren, Tony, Jeffry and David Pressley, Kevin Johnson and Michelle McDonough; and seven great- grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. today in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jimmy Thomason officiating.
Interment will follow in Boydston Cemetery.
The family will receive friends prior to the service today at the funeral home.

RINGGOLD — Ralph Richard Price, 66, passed away Wednesday, March 17, 2010.
Ralph served in the United States Army, and was of the Lutheran faith.
Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. today, April 2, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Military Honors.

Ester Rorex
TRENTON — Ester Marie Rorex, 67, died Wednesday, March 31, at Soddy-Daisy Health Care.
Mrs. Rorex was a member of Floral Crest Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Survivors include, brothers, Roy Tishaw and Mark Tishaw, both of Trenton; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be today, April 2, at 2 p.m. CDT at Corner Stone Funeral Chapel, Ider, Ala., with Pastor Billy Mitchell officiating.
Burial will follow in Floral Crest Cemetery.
Family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time today.
