Morgan named Regents chancellor

Former Tennessee Comptroller John Morgan, who was instrumental in crafting recent higher education reform legislation, has been named the new chancellor of the Tennessee Board of Regents.

The full board voted on the system search committee's recommendation to hire Morgan in Nashville. Only one regent voted against his appointment to the job. He will begin work at the end of September with an annual pay of $385,000.

"I really believe that more so than any other agency in state government ... the future success of Tennessee is tied to the success of the Tennessee Board of Regents," Morgan said.
