McWherter starts new TV ad

Mike McWherter is up with another television ad as the Democratic gubernatorial nominee continues to boost his profile for the general election campaign.

"As governor, I'll veto any income tax proposal, and we need to cut taxes for small businesses that create jobs here at home," the Jackson businessman says in the 15-second spot, which is slated to air statewide beginning today.

In a statement, McWherter campaign manager Kim Sasser Hayden said the Democrat "is clearly the voice for Tennessee small business in this election. (Republican nominee) Bill Haslam does not believe that mom and pop operations deserve the same tax breaks given to large corporations, like his big oil company."

Knoxville Mayor Haslam and his family own Pilot Corp., which operates a national chain of interstate travel centers. Haslam has said repeatedly he opposes a state income tax.

McWherter's latest ad follows two other ads that began airing last week.
