Calhoun High School senior running back Dustin Christian has committed to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
Christian, who has led the third-ranked Yellow Jackets to a 13-0 record and a spot in the GHSA Class AA semifinals, has rushed for 1,436 yards and 22 touchdowns this season.
"[UTC] was just real close to home and I went up there for a visit and the coaches, they just seemed like family to me," Christian said Thursday, adding that the Mocs' recent turnaround was a factor, as well.
The 5-foot-9, 185-pound Christian rushed for 155 yards and two touchdowns in Calhoun's 31-13 quarterfinal win against Fitzgerald last week. The Yellow Jackets host No. 1 Carver, of Columbus, in the semifinals tonight.
"He's got all the tools," Calhoun coach Hal Lamb said. "The only thing he doesn't have is size, but he plays like he's got size. ... He's our go-to guy and he's made play after play all year long."
Christian is the third member of the Times Free Press' preseason Dynamite Dozen to commit to the Mocs, joining McCallie's Jarrod Coleman and Jacob Huesman of Baylor.
