Mayor Ron Littlefield said tonight that he wants to “get away from baby steps” and start taking bigger strides toward consolidation of city and Hamilton County departments. He also blasted the Chattanooga Housing Authority for its Fairmount apartments project.
Mr. Littlefield gave his State of the City address at the Lindsay Street Hall to a packed crowd of around 200.
He said the city could start looking at consolidating city and county departments such as Parks and Recreation and Public Works. There also were two other departments that could be unified, he said.
“We need a consolidated countywide fire and police force,” he said.
The mayor also blasted the housing authority, saying it could move into a building close to City Hall. He said the authority needed a change in location and leadership.
“We need a partner,” Mr. Littlefield said. “Not a problem child.”

Hopefully county residents, especialy in District 7, pay close attention to Mayor Littlefield's comments about how our county/city government services should be consolidated to provide cost savings service in an efficient and quality manner. The City government needs cooperative leadership in county govenment who will work for the good of all citizens. My goals of tax equity, consolidation of services and support of local manufacturing industries were listed on my website, www.andersonforhamilton.com before I heard Mr. Littlefield's speech. I look forward to being elected District 7's Hamilton County Commissioner and working with all government authorities for the good of ALL the citizens of Hamilton County. Gordon Anderson
Mr. Anderson, I don't know you or whoever your opponents may be. This is the first I've heard of you, so I went to your website and frankly, that's the same drivel that's got Chattanooga and Hamilton County in such deep bovine excreta as we're currently in.
Your palaver sounds like every other tick looking for votes while saying absolutely nothing.
More is required of you Mr. Anderson. Eliminate the blah-blah and state EXACTLY in SPECIFIC TERMS what you'll do. You words make it appear that you are a genius in the tradition of Ron Littlefield. That's exactly what Hamilton County doesn't need and can't afford.
Your words are empty, without meaning, and remind me of form letters where all you do is insert your name.
So either have a backbone, state specifics, and have the guts to actually fight against the status quo of politics as usual, or admit you're just another lackey looking to suck money and life from the taxpayers while feathering your nest.
Here's hoping you'll grow some or go home.
It's not business as usual anymore, Mr. Anderson and the people that will pay your future salary demand more than what you offer.
