Volkswagen officials today said the company’s new supplier park adjacent to the assembly plant the company begins production in next year initially will employ about 500 workers.
Frank Fischer, CEO of VW’s Chattanooga operations, said six companies will be the first businesses to go into the supplier park.
He would not immediately name the companies, but he said that some of the parts to be assembled in the supplier park include axles, exhaust systems and tires and wheels.
In addition, other parts for the mid-sized sedan to be made in Chattanooga — clutches, fuel tanks and carpeting — will be brought in to the supplier park and readied for production.
He said the supplier park will include two buildings, each more than 200,000 square feet in size.
The park will be at Enterprise South where VW is building a $1 billion assembly plant that is expected to employ 2,000.
