Tennessee: Jury selected for trial of former detective

A jury of ten women and four men has been selected in Chattanooga to hear a Rutherford County case in which a former detective faces a reckless homicide charge.

Ron Killings is accused in the July 2008 traffic death of 11-year-old Lakeisha White of Hopkinsville, Ky. Opening statements are Tuesday in Murfreesboro.

Killings was driving a county-owned car when White was struck and killed while crossing the street as she visited relatives in Murfreesboro.

The Daily News Journal reported prosecutors have recovered evidence that Killings was going twice the posted speed limit when the incident occurred.

Killings will be tried separately on charges of evidence tampering and filing a false report.

A family member has said a civil lawsuit in the child's death has been settled out of court.
