GPS to forfeit bowling state

With six key members of the GPS bowling team committed to this week’s senior trip to Walt Disney World and coach Jenise Gordon chaperoning an eighth-grade trip, the Bruisers have decided to forfeit the rescheduled TSSAA state tournament Saturday at Smyrna, Tenn.

GPS officials tried to get the TSSAA to work out new dates, even for their final four including three Memphis teams, Gordon said. The Bruisers will bowl a mock match this afternoon at Holiday Bowl Hixson.

McCallie and the Soddy-Daisy boys still will take part Saturday at the center where the roof collapsed after the Jan. 29 quarterfinal round.
