Bob Baker Sr.

Robert Douglas "Bob" Baker, Sr., 57, of Ooltewah, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2010, at his residence surrounded by his family.

Bob was a lifelong resident of Chattanooga and graduated from Brainerd High School in 1971. He was a member of Bayside Baptist Church and one who loved to travel. Bob was a supervisor with Old Dominion Freight Lines. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Maizie Higginbotham Baker; and one son, Robert Douglas Baker Jr.

Survivors include his loving wife of 36 years, Susan Park Baker; son, Michael Park Baker, Chattanooga; daughter, Amy Baker Jackson, Chattanooga; sister, Linda Baker, Columbus, Ohio; and one grandson, Tyler Jackson.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Al Baker officiating.

Frances Billingsley

Frances E. Billingsley, 89, of Soddy-Daisy, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010.

The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at Williamson & Sons Funeral Home, with the Rev. Jerry Burse, the Rev. Fred Browning, Minister Carol Dixon and Rev. Stanley Swafford officiating.

Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Lois Craig

Lois Fine Craig, 94, of Chattanooga, left this world on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, from a local hospital. She passed away peacefully with love in her heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Bill Craig; one son, Harold Craig; one daughter, Linda Craig.

She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Ann; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be held today at 7 p.m. in the Highway 58 Chapel of Turner Funeral Home.

Burial will be "private."

The family will receive friends today from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Andy Cranfield

James Anderson "Andy" Cranfield, of Hixson, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, after a brief illness. He was 85.

He was born in Rockwood, Tenn., and as a child his family moved to Middle Valley. He was a lifelong resident of Middle Valley and Hixson. He worked for Coca-Cola Co. and later was owner of Hixson Packing Co. for 25 years.

He graduated from Hixson High School in 1942. After school he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II as a medical corpsman attached to the Marines. He participated in the invasions of several islands in the Pacific, including Iwo Jima. He was a member of the Alhambra Shrine, Hixson Masonic Lodge 727 and a former President of the Chattanooga Big Game Hunting Club.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 40 years, Margaret; also by his parents, Franklin Earl Cranfield Sr. and Annie Smith; his brother, Franklin Earl "Buck" Cranfield Jr. and sister, Elena Hixson.

He is survived by a son, Glen "Sparky" Campbell and his wife, Teresa, of Hixson; daughter, Cindy (Linda) Campbell, of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; grandchildren, Michelle (Matt) McBrien, of Hixson; Brian (Joccelyn) Campbell, of Raleigh, N.C.; great-grandchildren, Derrek McBrien and Dylan McBrien, of Hixson; nieces, Sis Jackson, Vonda Brasier and Pat Cook; and several other nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Dean officiating.

The family will receive friends from 4 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Alphonso Davis Sr.

Alphonso P. Davis Sr. passed away Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at a local hospital.

Alphonso was a former member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, receiving Christ at an age. He attended Hill High School in Lafayette, Ga. He served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam War.

He was formerly employed by Synthetic of Chickamauga; a construction worker and later he opened his own business; Davis & Son's Pallet Co. He was a family man and loved children; also a very giving man full of fun and laughter.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Davis; brothers, Martin, Levi and Nathaniel Davis.

He leaves to cherish his memories one daughter, Valerie A. (Eric) Craddock, of Chattanooga; sons, Alphonso (Kinji) Davis Jr., of Phoenix, Ariz.. Al Kendrick Davis, Maurice J. Davis and Tyler L. Davis, of Chattanooga; companion, Angela Lindsey; mother, Fannie M. Davis, of Chickamauga; brothers, Donald (Johnnie) Hinton, of Chattanooga; Jefferson (Linda) Davis and William (Isabelle) Davis, of Chickamauga, Ga.; nine grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home with Pastor Willie Paul officiating.

Interment in National Cemetery.

The body will lie in state after noon today with the family receiving friends from 7-8 p.m. at John P. Franklin Funeral Home, 1101 Dodds Ave., 622-9995.

Rayford Dunn

Rayford Harvey Dunn, 73, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Samps and Lois Dunn; sister, Noble Canoy; brother, James Alfred Dunn.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 47 years, Louise Dunn; three children, Peggy Sue Dunn, Bobby Ray (Geneva) Dunn, Timothy Scott (Sissy) Dunn, all of Chattanooga; sisters, Bessie Russell, of Scottsboro, Lilly Sue Whitaker, Mollie Guthrie, Janie Bonds, of Grant, Dolly Williams, of New Hope, Ruby Whitaker, of Columbus City; brother, Gerald Dunn, of Preston; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. CST today, Feb. 11, in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Glenn Dukes and the Rev. John Brown officiating.

Interment will be held at Preston Cemetery in Preston, Ala.

Gail Gannaway

Gail Coulter Gannaway passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, after a second valiant battle with cancer.

Gail was a native of Chattanooga.

Her first husband, Bearl Coulter, preceded her in death and together they owned Gailco Galleries.

Gail was recognized both professionally and personally with many awards and achievements. The following are just a few of her accomplishments: "President's Award" from Greenwich Workshop, 1994, "The first recipient of the "Lifetime Achievement Award," Art Dealer Category from U.S. Art Magazine, 1994, "National Award of Excellence," from Décor Magazine, 1990, "National Award of Merit," from Décor Magazine, 1989. Gail served on the Boards of The Greenwich Workshop and Somerset House, LTD, art publishing companies.

She was a national speaker at art and trade seminars and conventions, as well as various other events. As a breast cancer survivor of 38 years, Gail was a pioneer in speaking about her personal battle and inspired other women fighting the same battle. In 1994 she was recipient of "Women of Valor Award" given by the Y-Me organization. Gail was a model, from age 11, Youth Fashion Director, and Coordinator for Teen and College Boards for Miller Brothers Department Store.

Gail was a board member or chairperson of the following: American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, America's Promise, Boy Scouts of America, Goodwill Industries, March of Dimes, Medical Auxiliary Benefit Fashion Show, Siskin Foundation, Reach To Recovery, and Y-Me. She was the first female president of The Kiwanis Club of Chattanooga, 2000-2001.

Gail's personal honors and awards include: Miss Chattanooga, Miss Tennessee, 1962, Second Runner Up to "Miss USA in the Miss Universe Pageant, 1962. She was awarded the title of "Women of Distinction of Chattanooga" in 1989, 1991 and named to their Hall of Fame, 1992. She was awarded the "Kate Hinds Steele Award" given by Chi Omega Alumnae Association for outstanding community service.

Just shy of their first year anniversary, Gail is survived by her loving husband, George Gannaway; daughters, Kim Coulter and Nicole Coulter Mills, of Hixson; son, Sam and (Sandy) Gannaway, Birmingham, Ala.; daughter, Ellen and (Mike) Lail, Atlanta; son, Bryan and (Kendra) Gannaway, Tifton Ga.; her grandchildren, Alec Mills, Olivia Plunkett, Matthew Plunkett, Neil Gannaway and Cole Gannaway; cousins, Darden Newman, of Signal Mountain, Ray White, of Hixson, Gail Cooke, Steve Newman; nieces and nephews include, Laurie White, James Kimbrough IV, Brian Kimbrough and Julia McCaslin.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2010, at Hixson United Methodist Church at 5301 Old Hixson Pike, Hixson, with the Rev. Randy Martin and the Rev. Paul Longmire officiating.

The family will receive visitors at Hixson United Methodist Church, 5301 Old Hixson Pike, Hixson, today, Feb. 11, from 3-8 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 12, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Interment will follow at Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Hayes Garland

Hayes "Mutt" Garland, 93, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, in a local health care facility.

He was retired from TVA following 35 years of service and had worked at Combustion Engineering for several years. Mr. Garland was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Union #453. He was a faithful member of Highland Park Baptist Church and most recently attended Bethel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James H. and Martha Ann Cansada Garland; his wife of 50 years, Gertrude Steele Garland; brothers, Lewis and Charles E. Garland; and sisters, Lucy Ann Garland Westbrooks, Laura Garland, Geneva "Neva" Garland and Ella Gene Garland.

Survivors include his daughters, Lynda G. (Charles) Condra, Pamela J. (Jonathan) Branyon; sons, Kenneth L. (Hazel) Garland Sr. and Barry Wayne Garland; grandchildren, Michelle (Robert) Garland French, Kenneth L. (Karen) Garland II, Renee' (Toney) Ritchie, Charissa (Joel) Garland Waller, Jennifer (Bobby) Condra Hughes, Jonathan D. Branyon II, Christina L. Branyon, Lance A. (Shelby) Branyon, Susan R. V.T. George

V.T. George (George Thomas Vallyakalayil), 74, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010.

Mr. George was born in Ezhumattor, Kerala, India, on March 19, 1935. During his lifetime, Mr. George was a devoted husband and father. As the son of pioneering evangelicals, Pastor V.V. Thomas and Mrs. Aleyamma Thomas, in Kerala, India, Mr. George supported many Christian ministries throughout India and the United States. Mr. George was one of the founding member of the Chattanooga Christian Assembly.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maryamma George; and his eldest sister, Mrs. Deenama Chacko.

He is survived by his three children, Thomas George and his wife, Sabita George, Blessy George, Ruby Mathai and her husband, Roy Mathai; three grandchildren, Breanna George, Amanda George and Nicholas George; three brothers, V.T. Varghese and his wife, Rachel Varghese, V.T. Samuel and his wife, Annamma Samuel, V.T. Johnson and his wife, Elizabeth Johnson; three sisters, Chinnamma Daniel, Marykutty Mathew and Kunjamma Joseph and her husband, A.C. Joseph; and his brother-in-law, V.M. Chacko, along with several nephews and nieces.

Doris Victoria Jacobs, 83, of Hixson, died Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, in an area hospital.

Mrs. Jacobs was born in Bristol, Conn., and had lived in Chattanooga since 1969. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was a daughter of the late, Ernest and Alina Benson and was also preceded in death by a brother, Richard Benson; and a sister, Florence Landry.

Survivors include three sons, John Ernest Jacobs, Lawrenceville, Ga., Ron Jacobs, Chattanooga, Richard Jacobs, Hixson; two daughters, Tina Jordan, Oxford, Ga., Karen Murray, Larenceville, Ga,; seven grandchildren, Amanda (Michael) Ledford, Ringgold, Richard Carl Jacobs, Hixson, John Jacobs, Lawrenceville, Ga., Jessica (Luke) Fincher, Covington, Ga., James Bubba Jordan, Oxford, Ga., Heather and Hannah Murray, both of Lawrenceville, Ga.

Rev. Richard Key II

Rev. Richard Key II, 33, passed away Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, in his sleep at his home in Karen, Nairobi Kenya.

Richard is survived by his wife, Shauna; parents, Deborah and Dr. Michael Chitwood and Richard (Kyra) Key; sister, Julie Meadows; nieces, Alexis, Madison and Jayla; and grandmothers, Martha Fields and Esther Key.

The couple had previously resided in Mesa, Ariz. Richard was a graduate of the University of Phoenix and the International House of Prayer, Kansas City.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at Grace Church of the Nazarene Friday Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Barbara Jean Patrick Ouzts, 75, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010.

Dennie Townson

Dennie "Pappy" Townson, 69, of Chattanooga, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010, at his home.

He attended Center Grove Baptist Church. Dennie has been retired for 20 years after working in the moving industry for more than 30 years. During that time he owned and operated D&M and American Moving & Storage in Chattanooga. Dennie and his wife would have celebrated 50 years of marriage in September of this year.

He was preceded in death by his father, Audie Townson; mother, Nora Townson; and brother, James Townson.

Survivors include his wife, Glenda Townson; two sons, Mike (Joyce) Townson, of Bryant, Ala., and Jeff (Susan) Townson, of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Zack Townson, Matthew Townson, Amber Renner and Christopher Adams; brothers, Luther (Billie) Townson, of Ider, Ala., Ed (Carolyn) Townson, of Chattanooga, Bill (Mary) Townson, of Sylvania, Ala.; sister, Joyce (W.C.) LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Tracie JoAnne York Edwards, 41, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010.

She was a lifelong resident of Lookout Mountain and a member of West Cove Free Holiness Church, Chickamauga. She enjoyed spending time with her dogs and traveling to North Dakota to see the snow during the winter.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Dorothy JoAnne York; grandparents, Arvle and Virginia York; brother, Harold Eugene York; and sister-in-law, Louise "Weccie" Howard.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010, at Tiftonia Free Holiness Church on Brown's Ferry Road with Pastor Aaron Wooten and Pastor Billy Parker officiating.

Interment will follow a Lake Hills Memorial Park, Trenton.

Grady Humphries

RINGGOLD -- Grady Lee Humphries, 70, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010.

A native of Red Bay, Ala., he has been a resident of Cleveland, Tenn., and Ringgold, Ga., and was retired from Shaw Industries.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Estelle Mae Humphries and four brothers, Charles, Curt, Raymond and William Humphries.

Survivors are one son and his wife, Damon and Pamela Humphries, Ringgold; two daughters and their husbands, Cheryl and Terry McGuire, Bryant, Ala., Dee and Kimo Trigilio, Germany; six grandchildren; one sister, Margie Wason, Red Bay, Ala.; three brothers, Aaron Humphries, Pennsylvania, Oneal Humphries, Red Bay, Ala., and Edward Humphries, Wayne, Mich.; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Waymond Howard officiating.

RINGGOLD -- Thomas William King, 52, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010.

He grew up in Huntsville, Ala., and was a graduate of the University of Notre Dame. Mr. King was CEO/Manager of the Catoosa County Teachers Federal Credit Union. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

TIFTON -- Effie Jeannette Hughes Liner, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010.

She was born in Nashville to the late William Albert and Effie Lee Gilreath Hughes. She had resided for many years in Chickamauga where she was a beautician. She has resided in Tifton for the past few years where she was a member of Tifton Church of God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George C. Liner; two sons, Richard L. Liner formerly, of Kevil, Ky., and Curtis D. Liner, formerly of Rossville.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Rev. Gordon Statum, of Tifton, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy L. and Teresa Liner, of Rossville; and several grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Friday from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday morning until the service.

CHICKAMAUGA -- Billie Ann Rhodes Norris, 74, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2010.

She was born in Gadsden, Ala., to the late King William and Arietta Johnson Rhodes. She was a homemaker and had previously worked at Crystal Springs Mill and Borg Mills. She enjoyed going to horse shows and was a member of the National Racking Horse Association. She was of the Baptist faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, David Gipson; sister, Jean Rhodes; brothers, King William Rhodes Jr., Sanford Rhodes and Kenneth Rhodes.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Buddie Roe Norris, of Chickamauga; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Herndon, of Chickamauga, Anita and Dave Daughtrey, of Soddy-Daisy, Lisa and Ron Mizell, of Tiftonia; son and daughter-in-law, Terry and Kim Norris, of Chickamauga; sister, Alice Smith, of California; grandchildren, Christina Herndon, Tiffany and Courtney Daughtrey, Kody and Bailey Norris, Brooke and Tyler Mizell, several nieces and nephews.

She was born in Chattanooga April 2, 1936 and was a lifelong resident of Rossville. A devoted Christian woman and a shut in member of Moriah Baptist Church.

Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Townsend; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Will A Lynn; brother, Barney Lynn; and infant sister, June Lynn.

She is survived by her brothers, Paul Lynn (Frida), C.W. Lynn; sisters, Dorothy Wallin, Willie Faye Early (Gene); sister-in-law, Wilma Sizemore; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be 12:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 12, 2010 in the funeral home chapel with Brother Randy Lynn, Brother Jay Walthour and Brother Gene Early officiating.
