16 injured as car crashes into auto auction crowd

A Dalton, Ga., man was one of 16 people injured when a car plowed into a crowd at an auto auction Tuesday in Ellijay, Ga., authorities said.

Raymond Satterfield, 68, of Dalton, was in fair condition Wednesday evening in Erlanger hospital, a spokesman said.

Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said a North Carolina man, 31-year-old David Gibson, also was airlifted to Erlanger. The hospital spokesman said Wednesday evening that David Gibson was not registered as a patient at Erlanger.

Two others were airlifted to Atlanta-area hospitals and 12 more were taken to hospitals in Fannin, Gilmer and Whitfield counties, Mr. Wright said.

The driver of the 1995 Volvo said the accelerator stuck Tuesday as the car was being driven into the auction building to be bid upon, the spokesman said.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the incident and no charges have been filed, Mr. Wright said.

Sticking accelerators is the rage these days, you know. That sorry excuse may fly.

A vehicle's brakes will overpower the engine... especially with an automatic transmition that uses a torque converter. Though you must be a driver behind the wheel and not a passenger to know that I guess. Too many "passengers" piloting vehicles these days.
