In his formal announcement this morning that he is running for Tennessee governor, U.S. Rep. Zach Wamp said the campaign is turning into a "two-man race."

Rep. Wamp urged a crowd of supporters at the Hamilton County Courthouse to help him against Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam, whom Rep. Wamp said has spent $2 million in the campaign so far.

The Chattanooga congressman said he and others are urging Lt. Gov. Ron Ramsey, R-Blountville, to stay in the lieutenant governor's office.

Shelby County District Attorney Bill Gibbons is also running in the Republican primary for governor.

Three Democrats - former state Rep. Kim McMillan, D-Clarksville; state Sen. Jim Kyle, D-Memphis, and Mike McWherter are running in that primary.

Rep. Wamp said he plans to file his papers today to be an official candidate in the gubernatorial contest.
