CHICKAMAUGA: Census coming up

Monday, February 22, 2010

Just another reminder that Census 2010 is coming in March. All households will be mailed a questionnaire, to be filled out and mailed back. The questionnaire contains 10 questions that should take no more than 10 minutes to complete. I have heard some people say that they are not going to answer any questions for the census. This only hurts the state of Georgia, Walker County and Chickamauga, if you live in Chickamauga. The census questions are legal to be asked, and your answers are constitutionally protected from disclosure to any government agency or court. The first U.S. Census was conducted under the supervision of Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson on Aug. 2, 1790. The Constitution mandates that the population be counted every 10 years. Georgia currently ranks ninth in the nation in population and has 13 representatives in the U.S. House of Representatives. Whether this number goes up or down depends on a correct census count. Be counted, so that we will be properly represented.
