CARTERSVILLE, Ga.

I-75 lanes closed in Catoosa today

Two southbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Catoosa County will be closed today so crews can patch the asphalt, according to a news release.

Georgia Department of Transportation spokesman Mohamed Arafa said the two left lanes between mile markers 348 and 347.2 will be closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., weather permitting.

Drivers may call 511 for updated information on road projects throughout the state. Information also is at www.511ga.org.

Tea Party film showing set

The Catoosa County Lunch Bunch will host a screening of the film "Tea Party: the Documentary," at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Catoosa County Library.

"This movie shows the impact of the grassroots movement," Brad Scott, former Catoosa GOP chairman, said in a news release.

He said the film "sets the record straight on widespread allegations and misrepresentations about one of the largest citizen protest movements in America's history."

Local leaders will speak and answer questions. Refreshments will be provided.

Bobby Bowden to speak at banquet

Former Florida State Football Coach Bobby Bowden will speak at the Lookout Mountain Fellowship of Christian Athletes Hometown Banquet at 7 p.m. Tuesdayat the Colonnade in Ringgold.

Five Gordon Lee juniors honored

Officials at Chickamauga City Schools' Gordon Lee High School say six juniors have been awarded Georgia Certificates of Merit for school year 2009-2010.

Students Taylor Shook, Kara Evitt, Allison O'Neal, Alex Pilgrim, Anna Quinn and Victoria Anderson were recognized for "outstanding scholastic achievement throughout the first three years of high school by ranking in the top 5 percent of their class," officials said.

The award is issued through the University of Georgia and is granted to the top 5 percent of students from more than 500 public and private schools in Georgia.
