Alabama: Man charged with abuse after child found outside

ANNISTON, Ala. — A Calhoun County father faces a child abuse charge after a neighbor allegedly found his 3-year-old daughter outside in 20-degree temperatures wearing only a T-shirt and diaper.

Authorities say the neighbor discovered the child outside Tuesday morning when temperatures were in the mid-20s in east Alabama. Sheriff Larry Amerson said the neighbor took the little girl home, but the father wasn't there.

Deputies were called and found the girl's feet were blue from being outside in such cold weather. The man was charged with abuse after he got back to his home in DeArmanville.

The father's name isn't being released to protect the identity of the child, who was placed with a relative.
