Collegedale mayor considers run for commission seat

Collegedale Mayor John Turner said Thursday he's mulling over a run for the Hamilton County Commission seat from which Commissioner Bill Hullander is stepping down.

"I'm still contemplating running in that race," Mr. Turner said. "I believe it's a logical step for me, since I'm in the middle of this district anyway. I believe I can make some contributions to the county as a whole."

Mr. Turner, a Republican, picked up papers to run for the commission's District 9 seat Wednesday, according to the county Election Commission. School board member Chester Bankston, also a Republican, has announced he will seek the seat.

Mr. Hullander announced last week he was leaving his commission seat to run for county trustee.

Mr. Turner said he's especially interested in looking at the growth Volkswagen will bring to the district, which covers Northeast Hamilton County.

On Thursday, Unum employee Gordon Anderson, a Republican, picked up qualifying papers to run against incumbent Republican Commissioner Larry Henry in commission District 8.
