WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. -- The Tennessee All-Stars won the third annual high school football Border Bowl clash Saturday, defeating Kentucky 26-13 at the University of the Cumberlands.
Tennessee leads the series 2-1 after winning the 2008 game 24-13. Kentucky won last year, 26-20.
Nine area players took part in the game: Red Bank's Jeremy Jackson, Mikey Burnette and Ladarius Thomas; East Ridge's Dominique King and Micah Kidd; Hixson's Zach McCarter; Boyd-Buchanan's Devin Caldwell; Central's Jonathan Robinson; McMinn County's Connor Vestal, and Rhea County's Arty Travis.
Hixson's Houston White was one of the assistant coaches for Tennessee.
"It was a good experience for the guys," he said. "They had a good week. This was sort of the rubber game in the series. It's always good to beat Kentucky in anything."
Brainerd's Jackie Reeves was selected to the game but injured an ankle during the first day of practice.
"Our first practice was at night and the ground was frozen solid," White said. "He was going to be our starting tailback, but he injured his ankle, then reinjured it the next day at a walk-through."
