Milton "Deno" Dean Jr., 62, of Chattanooga, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at his residence.

John Evans
John C. Evans, 56, of Chattanooga and Paris, France, passed away Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, at his home.
Mr. Evans enjoyed a number of hobbies such as antiques, history, and literature. He was a published author, and was multilingual.
John was employed as a health care professional for a number of years.
He was preceded in death by his father, John E. Evans, and sister, Betty Sue Shephard.
Survivors include his mother, Evelyn Evans; aunts, Phyllis Baldwin, Carolyn Goodwin, Gertrude Benefield; uncle, Charles Wiedemann; and several cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home.

Poncho Goodner
Billy R. "Poncho" Goodner, 76, of Hixson, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010.
Poncho served his country in the Army. He was retired from DuPont and Goodner and Company.
Poncho was preceded in death by his parents, Alden and Mildred Goodner; and a brother, James Goodner.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Keyser Goodner; siblings, Boyd (Judy) Goodner and Jean Goodner; children, Cathy (Chuck) Daniels, Natalie Goodner and Candy (Joe) Magouirk; grandchildren, Shaun (Erin) Daniels, Joshua and Kristin Francisco, Jason (Leslie) Lusk, Jermy (Laurie) Lusk; 10 great-grandchildren and mother-in-law, Lottie Mae Keyser and family.
He also leaves behind many good friends and all of his Legion domino buddies. Poncho leaves so many special moments keeping his memory alive in our hearts. All of our group hugs and his special cooked meals will bring sunshine to us on a cloudy day. His mischievous smile and love of life will be our inspiration. His strength was never in his muscles, it was in his heart filled with love for his home, his family and friends. He would say to us today, Be Happy, enjoy your life and the many blessings that God has given all of us. The love he gave was the life he lived. So go, our sweet Poncho celebrate your new life that God has prepared for you.

Margaret Jernigan
Margaret Webster Jernigan, 93, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Golden Gateway. Mrs. Jernigan retired from Loveman's Department Store. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family.
Mrs. Jernigan was preceded in death by her husband, James Robert Jernigan; and sister, Mary Elizabeth Webster.
Survivors include her daughter, Peggy (Bill) Forehand, of Chattanooga; son, Terry L. Jernigan, of Hixson; five grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Lane Funeral Home with Dr. Dan Whitaker officiating.
Interment will follow in Chattanooga Memorial Park.

Paul Kessel Sr.
Paul Godlove Kessel Sr., 86, of Hixson, died at home on Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, after an extended illness.
Mr. Kessel was a WWII veteran, had retired from Hamilton County, and was a member of Hixson Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dee Hoffmeyer Kessel; daughters, Diane Ludgood, of Arcadia, Fla., April Soos, of Orlando, Fla., Paulette Verity, of Pensacola, Fla. and Janet Pennell, of Chattanooga; son, Paul Kessel Jr., of Rockledge, Fla.; and sister, Helen Denner, of Edenburg, Texas.
There will be no visitation.

Katherine Page
Katherine B. Page, 84, of Chattanooga, passed away on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, in a local health care facility.
She was a retired sales clerk from Parisian Department Store and was preceded in death by her husband, David R. Page.
Private burial will be in Chattanooga National Cemetery.

Jenny Sibold
Frances Jeanet "Jenny" Sibold died on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, following a brief hospitalization.
Jenny was the daughter of Evelynn W. Sibold of Signal Mountain and the late Dr. Harold G. Sibold.
She is survived by her sister Tweedie Griswold, of Roswell, Ga.; and her brothers, Woody Sibold, of Signal Mountain and Dr. Harry Sibold, of Charlotte, N.C. She also is survived by her aunts, Josie Sibold, of Chattanooga and Libby Sibold, of Alexandria, Va.; and her uncle and aunt, Marvin and Marjorie Williams, of Tuscaloosa, Ala. in addition to numerous cousins and her nieces and nephews. She had special friends, Dr. Sue Cox and Mr. and Mrs. Tom Makepeace, all of Chattanooga.
The family expresses sincere gratitude to her many caregivers through the years and to the administration of the Stones River Center, formerly the Louisa School, in Murfreesboro, Tenn., where Jenny had lived and been loved these many years. Those individuals include, but are certainly not limited to, Lisa Izzi and Rumond Taylor. They all were her friends and extended family.

Bill Smith
James William "Bill" Smith, 66, of Ooltewah, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010.
He was a man with a gentle and humble spirit and he considered it an honor to serve others. He was a former member of Daisy United Methodist Church. He retired as a sales representative in the Steel Packaging Industry. He was active in the United States Army Reserves. He was a member of Silverdale Baptist Church where he taught the Becoming One Sunday School Class and served as an Usher. He was a Gideon and active in the Gideon International Central Camp. He volunteered with Hospice of Chattanooga.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Regina Bowen Smith.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Guethlein Smith, of Ooltewah; daughter, Heather S. Clift and her husband, Stephen, of Hixson; son, Andrew W. Smith and his wife, Brittney, of Hixson; stepson, Lin Guethlein and his wife, Karen, of Georgia; 11 grandchildren; brother, Robert Ray Smith and his wife, Barbara, of Hendersonville, Tenn.; two nephews and a niece.
Private Graveside services will be held on Wednesday at Hamilton Memorial Park Cemetery which is located in the Dallas Bay Lakesite Community.
A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday at 4 p.m. at Silverdale Baptist Church with the Rev. Tony Walliser officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Becoming One Sunday School Class and David Ivey.

Robert Samuel Smith Sr., 88, of Chattanooga, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010.
Mr. Smith was a native of the Bartlebaugh community. He served as a metal smith in the United States Navy in WWII. He retired from Interstate Blow Pipe Co.
He was preceded in death by his wife Verna Evelyn Smith; son, Robert S. Smith Jr.
Survivors include his children, Cheryl Murdock, of Rock Spring, Ga., Sandy Carter, of Rossville, Della Marie Ward, of Rossville, Mark S. Smith, of Rossville, Glenn A. Smith, of Lewiston, Idaho, James R. Smith, Apple Valley, Calif.; beloved friend, Evelyn Dickerson; 35 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren multitude of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at the North Chapel with grandson Robert Samuel Smith III officiating.

Dorothy J. Sullivan, 87, longtime resident of Chattanooga and Signal Mountain, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010.
She was retired from the Caviler Corporation of Chattanooga. She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover L. and Zannie Ridge Thomas; sisters, Mable Hartman and Mildred Williams; brothers, Gary C. and Grover Thomas Jr.
She is survived by her sons, Freddy (Cheryl) Sullivan, Mount Juliet, Tenn., and Thomas Sullivan, Gruetli-Laager, Tenn.; sisters, Charlotte (Albert) Harvey, Signal Mountain and Virginia Albritton, Chattanooga; granddaughter, Ashley Sullivan, Mount Juliet; sister-in-law, Mildred Stubblefield, Signal Mountain.

Raymond D. Sumner, 87, of East Brainerd, passed away on Monday, Jan. 18, 2010, in Spencer, Tenn.
Mr. Sumner was an Operating Engineer with the U.S. Army.

Judy Tate
Judy M. Tate, 72 , died Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010, after a long and courageous battle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Judy was born in Atlanta, Ga., and was the daughter of the late Louis Camp and Daisy Page.
Judy was a devoted mother and grandmother and she loved her grandchildren more than life itself. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Chattanooga. Judy retired from SunTrust Bank (formerly American National Bank) after over 20 years of service as executive secretary to the president, chairman and to the board of directors.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 23 years, Clarence Lee Tate.
She is survived by her three children, Steve Tate, Greg Tate (Jimmy Peters) and Kim Tate (Bill) Reason; four grandchildren, Kathryn, Olivia, Madeleine and William, all of Chattanooga; one sister, Phoebe (Guy) Tillman; and one brother, Stan (Bonnie) Camp, both of Atlanta; she also leaves behind several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, Jan. 21, at 10 a.m. at Chattanooga Funeral Home-East Chapel, 404 S. Moore Road and graveside services will be held at Chattanooga National Cemetery, 1200 Bailey Ave., immediately following the memorial service.

Archibald Willingham III
Archibald Calder Willingham III, Calder, Dad, Poppa, Poppie, and friend to many has died after a struggle with ALS Monday, Jan. 18, 2010. He was born Feb. 4, 1940.
He was born and raised on Lookout Mountain, Ga., and moved to downtown Chattanooga in 2001.
He was educated by Miss Caulkins, Bright School and Baylor School in Chattanooga. From there he attended the University of North Carolina and was graduated from University of Chattanooga in 1967 with a degree in Engineering Physics, and with a minor in Computer Science.
He married Betsy Martin in 1962. He is survived by children, Arch IV (Christine), of Lookout Mountain, Martin (Missy), of Macon, Ga., Phoebe, of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Michael (DeAnna) of Lookout Mountain. Grandchildren, Betsy, Nick, Molly and Coleman Margetts, Summer, Mac, and Anna Mercer Willingham, Elizabeth and Sara Willingham, and Lawton, Dylan, Courtney and Calder Daniel Willingham. Three siblings, James H. Willingham, Mike M. Willingham, and Emeline W. Haney. Numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins
Preceded in death by granddaughter, Jennifer Martin Willingham (Arch IV); and parents, Calder and Mary Alice Hedges Willingham.
He started his career with Combustion Engineering in the 1960s, working in the computer field, worked for several other local manufacturing firms, and formed his own computer software company (Calder Company) in 1988.
His interests have included board memberships in YMCA, Ladies of Charity, Heritage Landing Finance committee, Parish Eucharistic Minister for Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and he was a 25 gallon donor for Blood Assurance of Chattanooga.
Having spent many years as a hunter, Calder and Betsy started running at age 40 and ran until ALS stopped him in 2007. During those years he completed 10 marathons, many Half Ironman races and four full Ironman races. The last being 2005 and it was a personal best of 13 hrs. 26 minutes cutting 30 minutes off previous year race.
With everything he did, he did it with gusto and always went full out. His favorite saying was "Moderation is for Monks" and he had no problem telling you that, should you choose to be sitting on the sidelines.
Other interests were backpacking, scuba diving, the low country of South Carolina, Brook Green Gardens, cold beer, eating good and bad food with friends, fishing with his Mom and siblings in Florida and too many others to mention.
Calder's main interests were however his family. Every time he was surrounded by all the kids and grandkids he said, "This is what it's ALL about!!!"!
When asked by the ALS foundation, to site his proudest accomplishments, he wrote "My proudest accomplishments were marrying Betsy and fathering my wonderful children!"
A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, Jan. 21, at 3 p.m. and Our Lady of the Mount Catholic Church with interment in the Memorial Garden to follow. A party to celebrate Calder's life will begin at 5 p.m. at the Fairyland Club.

Harry Zelinsky
Harry P. Zelinsky, 95, of Chattanooga, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, in an area health care facility.
Mr. Zelinsky was retired from Chattanooga Boiler and Tank Company with 30 years of service and a veteran of WWII serving in the US Army. He was a member of Sumach Cumberland Presbyterian Church and held membership with the Cherokee Council of the Boy Scouts of America where he received the Silver Beaver award. He was also a member of the Order of the Arrow.
He was the son of the late Ernst and Mary Zelinsky and was preceded in death by a son, Donald Zelinsky; sister, Dorothy Hiddlebiddle; and a great-granddaughter, Katie Cole.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Hayes Zelinsky; four daughters, Jan (Jay) Green, Judy (Tim) Redmond, all of Crandall, Ga., Carolyn (Jerry) Luffman, Chatsworth, Susan (Terry) Stevens, Chattanooga; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; two nieces.
Services will be held 3 p.m. today at Sumach Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Sam Melton officiating.
Interment will be in the Church Cemetery with David Redmond, John Boyd, Terry Stevens, Ken Ogles, George Bryant and John Thomte serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Zelinsky will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service.

Margaret Richardson
KINGSTON -Margaret Buck Richardson passed away early in the morning of Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, after a brief illness.
Born in Armathwaite, Tenn., Jan. 25, 1924 as the youngest of six children of Noah Alfred and Margaret Hull Buck. She was a graduate of York Institute High School, Jamestown, Tenn. Married in 1947 to the late Hollis Clayton Richardson and celebrated over 52 years of marriage prior to his death in 2000. Worked as temporary Post Master of Armathwaite Post Office during WW II in relief for her brother Clyde during his military service. Devoted sister of Major John W. Buck who was a POW of the Red Chinese during and after the Korean War. Member of Fentress County Historical Society, member of United Methodist Church of Clarksville, Tenn. Avid Big Orange fan.
Preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Edna Range, Ann Berry and Ethyl Dunford; brothers, Clyde Buck and John Woodrow Buck; and nephews, Corwin and Bob Dunford.
Survived by daughter Elizabeth Ann Richardson and son in law, Gary M. Nuyt; son, Dr. John M. Richardson and wife, Patricia L. TRENTON - Mildred L. Carson, 81, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2010.
She was a member of Trenton Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Carson; two sons, Tommy and Steve Carson; and one granddaughter, Anna Crownover.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda (Terry) Getter, Trenton, Sharon Carson, Atlanta, Paula Grisham, Trenton; one sister, Pauline Roberts, DeLand, Fla.; two brothers, John and Craig Doscher, Chattanooga; eight grandchildren, Teresa, Bobby, Tara, Nolan, Ryan Lauren, Tommy, Keilly; 12 great-grandchildren, also several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday in the Ryan Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Don Walker and Chris Gerber officiating.
Interment will be in Lake Hills Memorial Gardens.
Family will receive friends 2-9 p.m. EST today.

DAWSONVILLE - Jeanne Castle, 65, died Saturday, Jan. 16, 2010, at her residence following a brief illness.
Born Aug. 13, 1944 in Flushing, N.Y. to the late Frank and Francine Arena, Jeanne grew up and lived many years in California prior to moving to Dahlonega in 1998 and to Dawson County five years ago. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse for 37 years and worked several years at Gold City Convalescent Center before being employed by Longstreet Clinic Pediatrics until she retired.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Laura and Keith Bishop, Dawsonville, Drs. Liesa and Hal Hill, Lookout Mountain, Tenn., Rhonda and Jason Brewer, Tampa, Fla.; sister, Carolyn Montgomery, Elizabethtown, Colo.; grandchildren, Stephanie Bishop, Kellie Bishop, Scott Hill, Audrey Jeanne Hill, Helena Brewer.
A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, Jan. 22, at 11 a.m. at Christ Redeemer Catholic Church, 991 Kilough Church Road, Dawsonville, GA 30534. Msgr. Stephen Churchwell will officiate.

CHICKAMAUGA - Ransom Reynold Crowell, 88, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010.
He was born Jan. 27, 1921, in Collingwood, Tenn., to the late Gordon and Bertha Crowell. He had been a resident of North Georgia for the past 50 years and was a member of Chickamauga First Baptist Church. Mr. Crowell was retired from Combustion Engineering after 26 years of service and was a member of Boilermaker Local #656. He enjoyed gardening, chair caning, reading and crossword puzzles.
Mr. Crowell as preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Clara Crowell; brothers, Hoyt and Verner Crowell; sisters, Jewell Mottweiler, Leona Hall, Aline Phifer; grandchildren, Chris and Rebecca Kate Cordell; and son-in-law, Bill Green,
Survivors are daughters, Lyla Crowell Green, Chickamauga, Wanda Crowell (Larry) Cordell, Henegar, Ala.; grandchildren, Billy Green, Kevin (Norma) Cordell, Greg (Stacie) Cordell, Trina (Brian) James; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Lakota, Chance, and Joshua Cordell; sisters, Edith Wright and Mary Dixon, both of Ringgold; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Reece and Elizabeth Green, Sparta, Tenn.; many special nieces and nephews.

Charles Piersaul Sr.
Charles Edward Piersaul Sr., of Chattanooga and Warner Robins, Ga., passed away on Thursday, Jan. 14, 2010, while working alongside his second family at Warner Robins Air Force Base following a sudden heart attack. Though his coworkers rushed to his aid and provided emergency medical assistance, he succumbed to an untimely death.
Born in Chattanooga on July 7, 1952. He was the son of Lester Piersaul and two beautiful mothers, Helen Gaines (biological) and Annie Mae Piersaul.
Charles was an exceptional student and athlete in high school excelling in football and basketball. Upon graduation, Charles married his first wife Carol Partridge and joined the U.S. Air Force. He serviced military aircraft while experiencing the world, traveling to the countries of Germany and the United Kingdom to name a few. During his military career, he discovered his passion for the art of photography that followed him for the rest of his life. After leaving the military, he served Warner Robins Air Force Base as a civilian, rounding out 38 years of military service.
Charles would say his greatest achievement were his children and grandchild. He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Erica (with Carol Piersaul, first wife), Cayshia and Candace Piersaul (with Temetrius Shepard, second wife), the oldest child and only son Charles Jr. (with Carol Piersaul, first wife) and granddaughter, Devin Carr. He also leaves four sisters, Erma Worthy, Richmond, Va., Juanita Sands, Janette Gaines, Chattanooga, and Thelma Jean Yarbrough, Birmingham, Ala., along with four brothers Thomas, Curtis, Chattanooga, Anthony, Houston, Texas, and Spencer Sands, Atlanta. He has several nieces and nephews including Michael Worthy, Houston, Texas, and Robin Worthy, Richmond, Va. Charles will also be deeply missed by numerous cousins, extended family and friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to his coworkers from Warner Robins Air Force Base and the EMS unit who responded to Charles while in distress. He has always considered the friends he worked with as family. It was a blessing for him to depart surrounded by the people that cared so deeply for him.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010, at Nelson's Memorial Mortuary Chapel.
Interment in Magnolia Park Cemetery in Warner Robins, Ga.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the chapel.
