Hamilton County: Commission to vote on Signal Mountain school compromise

Thursday, January 28, 2010

Hamilton County commissioners will vote next week on a compromise to sell the old Signal Mountain Middle School property to the owner of the Signal Mountain Athletic Club.

Athletic Club owner Tom Poteet sued the county in October over the commission's decision to put restrictions on the property into its deed. Mr. Poteet is planning to transform the old middle school property into a community athletic center.

County Attorney Rheubin Taylor said this morning that Mr. Poteet will drop his lawsuit based on an agreement that the restrictions will only be in effect for five years or in the event of Mr. Poteet's death.

Several county commissioners said they plan to support the compromise, which County Commissioner Richard Casavant helped forge.
